Thai celebrity Tono Pakin Kumwilaisuk to advocate bear protection in Vietnam
The Ambassador for the World Animal Protection (WAP), Thai singer and actor Tono Pakin Kumwilaisuk is set to come to Vietnam to attend a bear protection exhibition in Hanoi on June 30th.

The exhibition will be organised by the Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV), announced Bui Thi Ha, ENV deputy director, on June 27th.
Tono, who is best known for being among the eight finalists that competed in The Star, season 6, a singing contest broadcast live on Thai television. The 1986 born star has also been honoured with a range of awards, such as the 26th TV Gold Awards as Best Leading Actor (2012) and the OK Awards (2015).
In 2013, Tono became a WAP Ambassador and has been involved in various activities and projects run by the international organisation to improve animal welfare in Thailand. Tono regularly uses social networking sites, with more than 2.2 million followers, to disseminate messages on animal protection.
In Vietnam, he will accompany the bear protection activities organised by the WAP and ENV - Vietnam’s first non-governmental organisation focused on the conservation of nature and the protection of the environment.
In addition to participating in the bear protection exhibition on June 30th, the artist will also visit several bear farms in Hanoi’s Phuc Tho district, as well as holding a talk with Hai Phong city’s Forest Protection Department on efforts to end bear farming in Vietnam.
According to Ha, the number of bears in captivity in Vietnam has decreased dramatically from more than 4,300 in 2005 to 851 as of April 2018. To date, 22 localities have eliminated bear captivity./.
