Bau Trang or Bau Sen – Mui Ne sand dune, which is about 65 kilometers from Phan Thiet towards the Northeast, is located in Hoa Thang commune, Bac Binh province. Bau Trang has formed a long time ago. It used to be a large lake, then local people built a sand dam, which divided it into two parts.

In the local language, ‘Bau’ means ‘lake’ and ‘Trang’ means ‘white’. The word ‘Bau Trang’ depicts a water body surrounded by stretches of white sand. The other name, ‘Bau Sen’, translated as ‘Lotus Lake’, signifies a specific feature of the area.

A large part of the water surface is covered by clusters of lotuses. The soft pink tone of the flowers, mixing with the lush green shade of the leaves and the translucent blue color of the water creates a scenic, mesmerizing landscape.

Visiting Bau Trang, tourists can hire a fishing boat from the local villagers to explore the area around and enjoy their fun fishing activities. The water in Bau Trang is sweet and cool all year round, easing the hot atmosphere of the vast sand dune. This is also one of the most favorite tourist destinations in Binh Thuan that its uniqueness charms every tourist who comes here for the first time.

Tourists are advised not to visit Bau Trang in the afternoon because of the harsh sun. When visiting the stunning location, should prepare hats, sunscreens, glasses, and a long-sleeved shirt to shield your skin from the sun. The best time to visit Bau Trang is during the summer months (particularly July and August) when the flowers blossom and the weather is sunny for most of the time. However, there may be a sudden downpour as the rainy season is not over yet. Therefore, watch the weather forecast beforehand to avoid any unwanted disruption.
