The Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee on June 6th announced decisions forming Department of Tourism and Department of Culture and Sports.

Accordingly, the two Departments were separated from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Department of Tourism is a professional organ helping the provincial People’s Committee perform theSstate management on tourism in the locality as prescribed by law. Meanwhile the Department of Culture and Sports assists the People’s Committee to manage local issues related to culture, family, sports and advertisement as prescribed by law.

The People’s Committee decided to appoint Mr. Le Huu Minh, former Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism from June 6th, while Mr. Phan Tien Dung, former Head of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, was assigned to be Director of Department of Culture and Sports.

Is his speech at the announcing ceremony, Le Truong Luu, PCC member, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, noted after the establishment, the Department of Tourism should focus on stabilizing the personnel apparatus and carrying out solutions for better tourism development.

From 2010 to 2015, Thua Thien-Hue achieved an average growth of 13%. In 2010, the province greeted 1.74 million tourist arrivals and the figure jumped to 3.12 million in 2015.

It set a target of welcoming 5.7 million visitors including around two million foreigners by 2020, and total revenue from tourism would reach VND6,000 billion./.
