Tree Planting Festival Kicks Off in Truong Sa Islands
The tree planting festival initiated by President Ho Chi Minh has been a tradition in Vietnam for more than 60 years, encouraging afforestation and forest protection and greatly contributing to national development.
In response to the tree planting festival "Forever Grateful to Uncle Ho" and implementing the program "Greening Truong Sa", officers, soldiers, and residents of the islands in Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province on February 14 (the fifth day of the Lunar New Year), took part in the ceremony launching a campaign to plant trees on the islands.

After the launching ceremony, officers, soldiers, and individuals on the islands planted more than 3,000 trees, including more than 1,000 new trees of various types; caring for and pruning more than 2,000 trees of all kinds on the islands.
The Navy Region 4 Command said that in recent years, the movement to plant, care for, and protect trees has always been actively and enthusiastically participated by officers and soldiers in the Truong Sa island district.
To successfully launch this year's tree planting festival, the islands have developed plans and organized specific assignments for each force to plant and care for trees; and fully prepare all kinds of plants, fertilizers, and working tools. At the same time, commanders at all levels reminded each unit of Uncle Ho's teachings, "Spring is the time for planting trees, making the country expand day by day."

In the coming time, Naval Region 2 Command and its affiliated units will continue to plant over 3,000 new trees, making environmental landscapes, and barracks green, clean and pretty.
On November 28, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh wrote an article in the Nhan dan (People) newspaper stressing the significance of tree planting for each person, each family, and the entire nation. Since the first tree planting festival was held in the spring of 1960, following the late leader’s teachings, authorities and sectors from the central to grassroots levels, along with people nationwide, have joined hands in planting trees whenever a new year arrives. |
