The eighth congress of the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Association was held in Kiev on December 12.

During the 2014-2019 term, the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Association maintained activities celebrating two countries’ anniversaries, promoting images and information on the situation of Ukraine - Vietnam relations, continuing to work closely with the Vietnamese Embassy in Ukraine and the Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association to organize joint political activities.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, Chairman of the association Shlapak Alexandr Vitalievich reviewed the journey of more than 50 years of establishment and operation, emphasizing the affection of the Ukrainian people for the Vietnamese people through the Ukraine Friendship Association – Vietnam’s activities, adding that the association will carry out practical activities in 2020 to promote Vietnamese land and people in Ukraine, as well as serve as a bridge to connect bilateral relations in economy, trade and culture.

Speaking at the association’s second congress, Vietnamese Ambassador to Ukraine and Moldova Nguyen Anh Tuan highlighted its contributions to the embassy and the Association of Vietnamese people in Ukraine.

He expressed his hope that it will continue assisting in building the Vietnamese community in Ukraine, thus strengthening the partnership between the two countries.

Tuan stressed the embassy will always support and accompany the association in implementing people-to-people diplomacy activities to increase mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

The congress discussed and adopted a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Ukraine-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Vietnam-Ukraine Friendship Association for 2020-2024, and a cooperation plan between the two sides in 2020.

It also elected a new executive committee with 10 members with two Vietnamese members. Shlapak Alexandr Vitalievich, vice chairman of Ukraine’s business association, former Minister of Finance, was re-elected as chairman of the association./.
