United Nations Staff Officer Course Opens in Hanoi
The training course takes place from May 13-29 to equip officers with basic knowledge and professional skills on United Nations military advisory work at the Mission Command level.
The participants are officers preparing to deploy their duties at peacekeeping missions as United Nations advisory officers or working in a field related to United Nations peacekeeping advisory work.

During the course, participants will be equipped with basic knowledge about the United Nations and its peacekeeping activities such as: Environment of peacekeeping operations, mission organizational structure and mission advisory agencies, legal basis and guidelines for the mission's operations (rules for use of force, international humanitarian law, agreement on force regulations, etc.).
They will learn the principles of United Nations peacekeeping operations, command and control, combat advisory work, protect civilians; humanitarian assistance; media relations; disarmament, disarmament and community reintegration; collect and analyze intelligence information; military-civilian coordination. Important functions, tasks and coordination mechanisms between advisory agencies at the Mission Command will also be shared by lecturers.
At the same time, based on realistic simulation situations and functions of each advisory agency at the Mission Command, students will practice general exercises on the map on skills such as: Analysis and evaluation mission situation, develop combat plans, draft integrated combat plans; draft and issue combat orders, coordinate synergistically in performing advisory tasks at the Mission Command.
In his remarks, Colonel Nguyen Nhu Canh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, said that the course has the participation of both domestic and international students. In particular, the international students come from partner countries of the GPOI Program and Vietnamese students come from different units and forces such as: Vietnam People's Navy, Air Defense - Air Force, Ministry of Commander of Cyberspace Operations, Border Guard Command, Coast Guard Command and Special Forces Command.
Canh said that the course contributes to improving the capacity to organize international intensive training courses and developing a team of lecturers on UN peacekeeping as well as strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between Vietnam and the United States as well as the international partners in the field of peacekeeping .
Lee Seck Weng, Head of the GPOI Lecturer Team, assessed that Vietnam has come a long way in contributing to the United Nations peacekeeping mission with the deployment of military personnel at peacekeeping missions in 2014. The efforts of Vietnam's peacekeeping forces have not only created a significant impact at the homeland but also inspired others to join in the noble cause of maintaining peace in conflict-affected areas.
