At the event, Phuong Hoang, chairman of the Vietnam Business Association in the UK (VBUK), evaluated the performance of the association in the last term and set out the development direction for the new term.

In 2022, VBUK has coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy and Trade Office in the UK to organize activities to connect domestic businesses with Vietnamese businesses in the UK. These activities include Vietnam Week in London and Nottingham, and the January Furniture in Birmingham, attracting many domestic businesses.

The events helped introduce to UK consumers and retailers a wide range of Vietnamese products, from wooden furniture and handicrafts to high-quality agricultural products such as rice, seafood, and fresh fruit.

VBUK has also organized online seminars to advise businesses and people on corporate governance and social activities, such as organizing sports tournaments and football matches among Vietnamese associations in the UK. The association helped organize the Lunar New Year celebration for overseas Vietnamese in the UK and mobilized donations to help people in the country fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

The organization has received a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister of Vietnam for its contributions to the Vietnamese community in the UK and people in the country.

Regarding the direction, VBUK Chairman Phuong Hoang said that the association focuses on 3 main goals.

The goals include promoting trade and business activities among the community in the UK, in Europe and in the country; fostering community activities to build the image and enhance the reputation of the business community in the UK; strengthening volunteering activities for disadvantaged Vietnamese communities in the UK and in the country.

To strengthen trade, Phuong Hoang said that VBUK plans to organize exhibitions and Vietnam Week to promote Vietnamese businesses in the UK, the cooperation between Vietnamese enterprises in the country and in other countries.

The association will also act as a bridge to introduce customers and business opportunities in the UK to domestic businesses.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Vietnam to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long called on VBUK to maintain its role as a bridge between the business community in the UK and Vietnam. He said the relationship between Vietnam and the UK is developing well, especially in the economy, trade, and investment.

The Ambassador said that the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement, with the bilateral trade value expected to reach US$10 billion, is creating a "highway" for businesses of the two countries to increase trade in goods. That is a great opportunity that Vietnamese businesses in the UK need to take advantage of.

In the first 8 months of the year, with the complicated world situation, Vietnam's exports to the UK continued to increase sharply in the first 8 months, showing that the UK market's potential is still large.

The ambassador said that in 2023, the two governments will celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations with diverse activities. The Vietnamese Embassy in the UK is expected to organize many economic, commercial, and cultural activities throughout the UK.

The Ambassador said that the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK always supports VUBK in its activities to promote relations between Vietnamese businesses in the UK and in the country. He emphasized the need for close cooperation between the Embassy and the association to ensure the highest efficiency in these activities.
