Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations Expand Cooperation for Peace

On April 9, Dong Huy Cuong, Director of the Vietnam Institute for International and Public Diplomacy Studies (under the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations) received Hiba Qasas, Executive Director of the Principles for Peace - P4P and David Fernandez Puyana, Ambassador of the United Nations mandated University for Peace.

At the meeting, Dong Huy Cuong introduced the history, mission, and vision of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations. Regarding activities for peace, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and its member organizations coordinate with partners to organize many activities such as conferences, seminars, dialogues, painting competitions, exhibitions, and sports competitions; participate in projects to resolve the consequences of war, reconciliation, and peace education activities aimed at raising awareness of people, especially young people, about the role and meaning of peace.

The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and its member organizations also proactively and actively participate in conferences and seminars on peace within the framework of multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Asia-Europe People's Forum, and the World Peace Council...

Dong Huy Cuong suggested that the two sides maintain the exchange of information and cooperation ideas in upcoming programs.

According to Hiba Qasas, Executive Director of the Principles for Peace (P4P), Vietnam is a role model of a country that has gone through many wars but actively promotes dialogue and contributions to peace. P4P wants to learn from Vietnam's experiences and to invite the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations to join its partner network and coordinate in regional and international activities and forums.

The two sides also agreed to coordinate in training and propaganda activities on peace.

Principles for Peace (P4P) was established in January 2023, headquartered in Switzerland. As an international organization gathering many actors, including politicians, scholars, non-governmental organizations, etc, P4P aims to develop new principles, standards, and norms to shape peace processes and chart a path to lasting peace.
University for Peace (UPEACE) was established under Resolution 35/55 passed by the United Nations General Assembly on December 5, 1980. Located in Costa Rica, UPEACE specializes in peace education, conflict resolution; and research on peace contributes to peacekeeping and peacebuilding worldwide.
