This is the tenth monument completed under a project to build and upgrade 17Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in Cambodia, with funds provided by the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence, aiming to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2017.

The 12.5 meter high monument is located in the the park on the bank of River Sekong, in the center of Stung Treng city. It is not only a symbol of the sriritual friendship of the two peoples, but also a cultural work, a historical witness to educate the young generation of the two countries.

Addressing in the inaugural ceremony, Stung Treng governor Mom Saroeun, stressed he people of Stung Treng province as well as the people of Cambodia always remember the great support of Vietnamese volunteers who laid down their lives for Cambodia’s liberation.

The construction and restoration of Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monuments is to commemorate the merits of Vietnamese and Cambodian troops, especially the sacrifice of Vietnamese volunteers to help Cambodian people during their struggle against Pol Pot genocidal regime./.
