The Vietnamese delegation is attending the Third United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York from August 30 to September 3, to show that Vietnam is ready to join the international peacekeeping force.

At the 50th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in June, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the Philippines co-organized a thematic discussion on demonstrating the rights of vulnerable groups in the context of climate change.

They also introduced a draft resolution on human rights and climate change, focusing on the right to food and climate emergency.

Those are just two of many international activities that Vietnam participates in, showing that Vietnam is an active and responsible partner with the common issues of the international community.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that Vietnam is an important factor contributing to peace and stability in the region.

"Vietnam shows the strong commitment of a country that strives to build trust and dialogue, as a bridge to find peaceful solutions to conflicts around the world," he said.

The assessment of the United Nations Secretary-General reflects the trust and expectation in Vietnam's responsible contributions to regional, and international peace and security. It also shows the increasing international role of Vietnam.

Vietnam's successful completion of its term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council 2020-2021 is one of the typical examples.

Vietnam is assessed to have shown its responsible role when making suggestions, practical contributions to the operation of the Security Council, and joining hands to solve global challenges.

Vietnam's participation in the United Nations peacekeeping force since 2014 has also made an impression on the international community.

From June 2014 to August 2022, there were 512 times of professional Vietnamese officers and soldiers sent on missions to the South Sudan, Central African Republic, and Abyei.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix thanked Vietnam for its strong support and contributions to peacekeeping operations.

Lacroix appreciates the duties, and sacrifices of Vietnamese soldiers when they had to perform their duties in difficult environments.

Vietnam's level 2 field hospital in South Sudan has played a role in the overall success of the UN mission in this African country important, providing the health and medical conditions for its staff, UN peacekeepers, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the region, Vietnam affirms that it is a responsible member, contributing its best to the development of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

United Nations Secretary Guterres applauds Vietnam for promoting the relationship between ASEAN and the United Nations to a new height, promoting the spirit of mutualism.

Appreciating Vietnam's achievements, Ambassador Philippe Kridelka, permanent representative of Belgium to the United Nations said: “Vietnam has a strong voice and has won the trust of the world, especially in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the US.”

RoK Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin said Vietnam is a bridge connecting the RoK with Southeast Asia. He also emphasized the importance of promoting cooperation with ASEAN and Vietnam.

Ruvislei González Sáez, vice president of the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that an active diplomacy and peace policy is a key factor in Vietnam's achievements in international integration in recent years, helping to improve Vietnam's position in the international arena.
