The Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association on Oct. 13 held a meeting of the Executive Committee to evaluate the work of the first nine months of 2021, and plan the work direction of the remaining months. Vu Hai Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the National Assembly Standing Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, was elected President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association for the 2021-2025 tenure.

Attending the Conference were Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairwoman of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association for the period 2017-2020; Phan Anh Son, Vice President and General Secretary of Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO); representatives of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, Foreign Affairs Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, the Office of the National Assembly, the Industry and Trade Ministry and members of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association.

In the first nine months of 2021, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association has carried out a variety of activities, strongly affirming the solidarity and consistent support of the Vietnamese people for the main revolutionary cause. the meaning of the fraternal Cuban people.

In the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association has actively and flexibly changed its mode of operation from offline to online and semi-online, popularize the information about the country and people of Cuba, the traditional solidarity and close relationship between the two peoples.

One of the key tasks of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association in the first nine months of this year is to carry out the work of consolidating the President of the Association. Truong Thi Mai received a new assignment and did not continue to participate in the Association's work. Vu Hai Ha, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the National Assembly Standing Committee and Chairman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee, was trusted to be elected as the association's president for the 2021-2025 period.

Speaking at the conference, Ha expressed his pleasure and honor to accept the role of President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association for the 2021-2025 tenure, vowing to devote his best efforts, together with the executive board and the standing board of the association, inherit and promote the good tradition of the association, act as a bridge and link the special friendship relationship between the two peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

As a student who once studied in Cuba, Ha has feelings of attachment and love for Cuba and its people, and feels proud following in the footsteps of their predecessors, making their small contribution to the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, a relationship that, as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said, "is a priceless asset that we can't help but appreciate." The two parties and people of Vietnam and Cuba have always preserved, protected, nurtured and passed it on to future generations.

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc just made an official friendship visit to Cuba on Sep.18-20. The special success of the visit was an agreement on Vietnam’s purchase of 10 million doses of Cuba's Covid-19 vaccine, which is an outstanding outcome affirming the special friendship between the two countries.

The visit also marked a milestone of special significance, as it was the first visit to Cuba by a head of state since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic and was made on the occasion of the 61st founding anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.

President Phuc's official visit to Cuba demonstrated Vietnam’s respect and determination to continue strengthening and deepening the time-honoured solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between the two Parties, States and people of the two nations, and strongly reaffirmed Vietnam's solidarity and consistent support for the just revolutionary cause of the Cuban people.

During his trip, President Phuc held high-level talks and meetings with leaders of the Cuban Party and State and had a number of important activities to develop the bilateral friendship and solidarity to a new height.

The two Presidents agreed to continue intensifying political relations through the exchange of delegations at all levels, maintaining and improving the efficiency of cooperation mechanisms, as well as coordinating to effectively implement the new trade agreement and making the most of its incentives to increase two-way trade.

The Vietnamese leader announced a decision to present 5,000 tonnes of rice and medical equipment to the Cuban people.

The two Presidents also witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation agreements between the two countries’ ministries, sectors and businesses.
