Vietnam Day in Switzerland 2021 Strengthens Bilateral Relations

On Oct. 9, the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland participated in organizing the online Vietnam Day in Switzerland on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Switzerland.

The event is within the framework of the annual Vietnam Day approved by the Prime Minister, and has been chaired and coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2010. In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam Day in Switzerland 2021 will be held online in Switzerland and Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Dang Hoang Giang, deputy minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized, on Oct. 11, 1971, Vietnam and Switzerland officially established diplomatic relations. This event made Switzerland one of the first Western European countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

According to Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang, the relationship between Vietnam and Switzerland has been formed before, gradually cultivated over time, along with many important events. In particular, the highlight was the event when Switzerland witnessed the historic Geneva Agreement signed on July 20, 1954, recognizing Vietnam's independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

That long-term and lively friendship is a solid foundation for the Governments and people of the two countries to constantly build and develop, achieving positive results in many fields including politics, diplomacy, economic, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

"The love and mutual trust between the two countries is demonstrated by the fact that many Vietnamese intellectuals have studied and grown up in Switzerland, the Vietnamese community in Switzerland is highly appreciated by the local authorities," Dang Hoang Giang said.

In the message for Vietnam Day in Switzerland in 2021, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland Le Linh Lan said that this was an important event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 30 years of development cooperation between Vietnam and Switzerland.

Assessing Vietnam-Switzerland relations, Ambassador Le Linh Lan said that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Switzerland had made steady progress in all aspects from politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, culture-education during the past 50 years.

The two countries have great potential to further promote cooperation in the field of innovation for sustainable development in the coming time.

Anjuska Weil, president of the Swiss-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that the people-to-people relationship between the two countries was formed very early when Swiss businessmen came to do business and set up companies in Vietnam during the French colonial period. This relationship was strengthened when the two countries officially established diplomatic relations.

Sharing at the program, Vietnam's honorary consul to Switzerland Philipp Rosler, a German, of Vietnamese origin currently living and working in Switzerland, pledged to be a bridge to promote Vietnam - Switzerland - Germany relations, especially in the field of economic cooperation, promoting trade and investment between Vietnam and Europe.

Philipp Rosler, said that being appointed as Vietnam's first honorary consul to Switzerland was a great honor, obligation and opportunity to be grateful to the country where he was born.

Regarding business investment opportunities in Vietnam, he emphasized that the most important factor is that Vietnam had an industrious, skilled and well-trained workforce and that was the driving force for the economy.

From the perspective of foreign investors in Vietnam, besides the good relationship between the two countries and the similarities, Vietnam is always the best place to invest by this workforce, he said.

Commenting on the potential of cooperation between Vietnam and Switzerland in the fields of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation - an expected bright spot in the cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, Luu Vinh Toan, a Vietnamese expert in Switzerland, said that Vietnam and Switzerland would complement each other very well in cooperation in science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Toan believes that the two countries Vietnam and Switzerland will become reliable strategic partners in the fields of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, making positive contributions to the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
