Vietnam Hopes for Stronger Research Cooperation with US
During the September meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State Bill Russo in Washington D.C. within the framework of his working visit to the U.S., Lai Xuan Mon, member of the Party Central Committee, standing deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education stressed that Vietnam wants to expand research cooperation and exchange experiences with US policy-making and management agencies.

He pointed out that Vietnam hopes to further expand partnership with policy planning and management agencies of the US in the fields of culture, education and external relations information as well as the application of science and technology and innovation, and other areas fall under the functions and tasks of the Central Propaganda Department.
The representative of the US Department of State emphasized the U.S. wants to foster cooperation with Vietnam through the exchanges of delegations at all levels in external relations and people-to-people exchange channels, and concretise collaboration activities included in the joint statement adopted by leaders of the two sides.
During the visit, on September 16, Mon had a working session with Joe Sims, co-chair of the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA).

Speaking at the meeting, Mon asserted that this working visit aims to contribute to strengthening the friendship and cooperation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPA) with political parties of the US, including the CPUSA.
Mon also proposed cooperation between the two parties in the coming time, such as strengthening cooperation between the two parties, including increasing information sharing and fostering coordination at forums for political parties, especially the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP).
Sims highly appreciated the leadership role of the CPA and congratulated the political, economic, cultural and social achievements achieved in recent times, especially amid fluctuations and challenges in the world situation.
He welcomes Vietnam and the U.S.'s increasing efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic relations, especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

On the same day, Mon received Merle Ratner, a left-wing activist in the U.S. and a longtime close friend of the Vietnamese people, during which he highlighted that Vietnam always treasures the the solidarity, support and valuable help the communists and progressive people of the U.S. have given to the Vietnamese people in the past, during its cause of national construction and defence, especially from longtime friends like Ratner.
Mon hopes that those like Ratner and her husband - Professor Ngo Thanh Nhan will continue to promote stories about Vietnam so that more and more international friends, especially the younger generation, will support Vietnam and support the leadership of the CPV.
During his time working in the U.S., Mon also spent time visiting, exchanging and working with leaders of the Vietnamese Embassy in the host country and the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations.
