On June 16, the University of Danang (UD) organized a ceremony to announce the Establishment Decision of the Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU).
This was an important event marking a milestone in the university's improvement of information and communication technology training in the digital age. The Prime Minister's Decision No. 15/QĐ-TTg on the establishment of the VKU made it became the UD's 6th member university.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) leaders, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc expressed his joy and sent his best wishes to the UD and all leaders, lecturers and students of the VKU.

The MOET's Deputy Minister emphasized the great significant of the VKU’s establishment, which not only contributes to accomplish the UD's network of member units but also actively contributes to the implementation of the Resolution No.43 of the Party's Politburo in developing Danang city in the new period, providing high quality human resources for the country's key technology industries.
Also at the ceremony, ROK Ambassador to Vietnam Park Noh Wan made a speech to congratulate the event “of great significance showing the considerable change of the university”. The Ambassador emphasized the strategy of continuously cultivating the traditional strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries in which high quality human resources training plays an important role to meet the needs of investment and development cooperation of the two countries’ businesses.

The Ambassador shared that, the ROK government will continue supporting the development of the Central region and Danang city. The Korean sides will re-start their projects after the interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He expressed his belief and affirmed the support of the ROK to fulfil the VKU’s missions of bridging the friendship between the two countries of Vietnam and ROK.
In the inauguration address, VKU’s Interim Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap sincerely thanked all former leaders, officials and lecturers of the VKU’s constituent units for "unanimously working together, persisting for more than 10 years of building and implementing the proposal to establish the university under the direction of the Prime Minister and the two ministries, localities, as well as the support of the ROK government".

The VKU is located on a 21.5 hectare-area of the UD’s Construction Project in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City with modern facilities. It has a strong potential of personnel (139 lecturers including 2 Associate Professors, 32 PhDs and 19 doctoral students).
The organization of the VKU is expected to have 5 faculties, 8 functional offices, 3 centers and 2 affiliated divisions with nearly 2,000 students. It is expected that there will be 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students by 2025.
In 2020, the VKU plans to enroll 1,200 students of 3 undergraduate majors (Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology and Business Administration) and continue to implement undergraduate and postgraduate training programs with the majors meeting the requirements of digital transformation and the 4th industrial revolution such as: Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Robotics, IoT, Information Security, Digital Economics, E-Commerce, Logistics, etc.
