One of the key highlights of the Vietnamese delegation at this session was its leadership in drafting and presenting a Joint Statement on promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to achieve gender equality. The statement received widespread support and was co-sponsored by 65 countries. It emphasized the crucial role of women and girls in sustainable development.

The main message of the statement was that advancing the SDGs must go hand-in-hand with empowering women and girls, as reflected in several areas: enhancing participation in decision-making processes; promoting leadership roles in science and technology; ensuring equal participation in peace and security processes; and increasing budgets and capacity to mainstream gender in policy planning. The statement affirmed that empowering women and girls is key to protecting human rights and promoting sustainable development.

Throughout the session, the Vietnamese delegation actively participated in numerous discussions and made notable statements on topics of high international interest, such as: realizing labor rights and social security in the informal economy; children's rights, especially in emergencies; responding to HIV/AIDS and leaving no one behind; cultural rights and the right to food; rights of persons with disabilities; and the situation in Palestine and the occupied Arab territories.

These statements clearly reflected Vietnam’s consistent policy of promoting and protecting human rights, while sharing concrete measures being implemented to support vulnerable groups. Vietnam also called on the international community to resolve political differences through dialogue, cooperation, trust-building, and adherence to fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.

The Vietnamese delegation also actively engaged with delegations from other countries, consulted with them, participated in drafting documents, and co-sponsored various initiatives with a spirit of dialogue, constructiveness, and consensus. Among these, the joint statement led by Vietnam was recognized as an outstanding initiative with wide-ranging influence during the session.

In addition to bilateral activities, Vietnam cooperated with ASEAN countries to deliver several joint statements, highlighting the importance of technical cooperation and capacity-building in the region.

Vietnam's active and responsible participation in the 58th session is particularly significant as this is the first session in the final year of Vietnam's current term as a UNHRC member (2023–2025). These efforts not only reaffirm Vietnam's strong commitment to protecting and promoting human rights but also lay a solid foundation for its re-election bid for the 2026–2028 term.

The 58th regular session of the UNHRC saw large-scale participation and covered a wide range of in-depth topics and important decisions. During the first week, the High-Level Segment took place with the attendance of four heads of state, six vice presidents or deputy prime ministers, 95 ministers and deputy ministers from UN member states, as well as senior leaders from international, intergovernmental, and non-governmental organizations.

Across its agenda, the session adopted 32 resolutions and held nine thematic discussions on various human rights topics, such as: mainstreaming human rights in public policy; the issue of the death penalty; early warning and prevention of genocide; responding to HIV/AIDS with a commitment to leaving no one behind; labor rights and social security in the informal economy; rights of persons with disabilities; and children’s rights—especially emphasizing rights-based approaches to early childhood development and emergency response.

Delegates also discussed 80 thematic reports, conducted 41 interactive dialogues with Special Procedures and human rights mechanisms of the UN, and held separate meetings on the human rights situations in several countries. The Council also completed the adoption of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) outcomes for 13 countries in the fourth cycle.
