Vietnam - Model to Promote World Peace: United Nations Secretary General

On the occasion of the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda, on January 20, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan had bilateral meetings with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mokhber.
The Vice President appreciated the important role and contribution of the Secretary-General and the United Nations to the process of peace, security, and development in the world in the context of current challenges.
She affirmed that Vietnam always strongly supports multilateralism and the global governance system with the United Nations playing a central role.
Vietnam also supports the Secretary General's efforts, and initiatives for peace, reconciliation, and strengthening strategic trust between countries.
The Vice President emphasized that Vietnam is always determined to contribute responsibly to the common work of the United Nations, including implementing the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and striving to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
In this process, Vietnam hopes to continue to receive effective cooperation and support from the United Nations, especially access to finance, technology, and human resource training.
The Vice President requested the Secretary General of the United Nations to create favorable conditions for developing countries to promote their role and voice in solving global problems.

The United Nations Secretary-General said the United Nations is ready to develop multifaceted cooperative relations with Vietnam.
The UN hopes that Vietnam will continue to make effective contributions to major United Nations processes in the coming time, including the Summit of the Future in 2024, towards a more peaceful, sustainable, and equitable world order.
On this occasion, the two leaders shared common observations and assessments on the role of multilateralism, and the need to reform international financial institutions and strengthen ASEAN-UN cooperation for peace and stability in Southeast Asia, including the East Sea issue.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan affirmed that Vietnam always values friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Iran, one of Vietnam's important partners in the Middle East region.
The two sides need to continue to coordinate closely to implement agreements reached during the official trip to Iran of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue (August 2023) on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2023).
The Vice President proposed that relevant ministries and branches of the two countries continue to review and update cooperation mechanisms, and soon organize the 10th meeting of the Vietnam-Iran Intergovernmental Committee to remove obstacles and facilitate economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Mokhber affirmed that from the similar values in the development history of the two countries and two peoples, Iran has always considered Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia.
Mohammad Mokhber agreed with Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan's proposal to promote economic and trade relations commensurate with the potential of the two countries while expanding cooperation in other areas of mutual interest such as science and technology, education training, people-to-people exchange, and local cooperation.
He expressed his desire to visit Vietnam to contribute to deepening relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, the two sides discussed several international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the situation in the Middle East and the East Sea issue.
