PM leaves Hanoi for WEF meeting, working sessions in China
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh left Hanoi on June 24 morning for the 15th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian city, Liaoning province of China, and working sessions there from June 24-27.
The trip was made at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF Founder and Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab, cited VNA.
PM Chinh is accompanied by some ministers, the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, and other representatives of ministries, agencies, and localities.
Themed "Next Frontiers for Growth", the meeting will gather 1,600 delegates from nearly 80 countries and regions, according to the WEF’s website.
It will harness collective insights to identify and advance new models of sustainable and equitable growth, with a focus on entrepreneurship and innovation.
Chinh is among the few government heads who have been invited by the WEF and host China to attend the event for two consecutive years.
This demonstrates the importance they attach to Vietnam’s position and role in and contributions to global economic growth, as well as its development vision for the future economy.
The meeting also offers an opportunity for the Southeast Asian nation to promote its achievements in developing and stabilizing the macro-economy, and its development priorities and orientations.
While in China, PM Chinh and his entourage are scheduled to carry out bilateral activities with China to maintain high-level strategic exchanges, strengthen political trust, materialize the high-level common perceptions and the two joint statements reached during the recent visits by the two Party chiefs, and promote practical cooperation with new progress, especially in the areas where Vietnam has needs such as cross-border railway connection, border economic cooperation, its exports via the official channel, high-quality investment attraction, sustainable tourism, and high-quality personnel training.

Vietnam always considers the United States a strategically important partner and is ready to work with the US to promote the effective, stable and substantive development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.
The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son at a recent reception in Hanoi for US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink who paid a working visit to Vietnam from June 21 to June 22.
FM Son noted his appreciation for the contributions of Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink to bilateral relations and thanked the US Department of State for accelerating the upgrading of the two countries' relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and boosting close coordination to successfully organize the first Vietnam-US Dialogue at the foreign ministerial level in Washington DC in March.
The nation always regards the US as a strategically important partner, and is ready to work with the North American nation to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership in an effective, stable, and substantive manner on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and each other’s political institutions, in accordance with the interests of the two peoples, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region, Son told his guest.

Vietnam supports the US in stepping up regional cooperation as a contribution to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the wider world, he added.
Assistant Secretary of State Kritenbrink reaffirmed his country’s commitment to backing a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam, according to VOV.
Kritenbrink highlighted the FM Son’s visit to the US on the occasion of co-chairing the Foreign Ministers' Dialogue between the two countries as an important step in concretizing the cooperation contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
He also reaffirmed the US' commitment to supporting a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.
Kritenbrink affirmed that the US welcomes and appreciates Vietnam's increasingly important role at multilateral and regional forums, adding that his nation values and supports ASEAN’s centrality in the regional structure, and will continue to pay attention to enhancing the ASEAN-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the Mekong-US Partnership.
Host and guest discussed specific measures to effectively implement the new relationship framework in the coming time, in which they agreed to step up contacts and high-level delegation exchange, maintain the development momentum of economic - trade - investment cooperation, overcome war consequences, respond to climate change, and enhance areas of cooperation in emerging industries such as innovation, semiconductors, and clean energy transition.
The two sides also compared notes on regional and international issues of shared concern, underlining the importance of settling disputes through peaceful means on the basis of compliance with the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and international law, including the East Sea issue, thereby actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
During the visit from June 21-22, US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink had a working session with Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc to discuss issues within the framework of the Vietnam - US comprehensive strategic partnership and other matters of mutual concern.
Cambodian media highlight Vietnam – Cambodia relations
Cambodia’s national news agency Agence Kampuchea Press (AKP) and some other press agencies like Kampuchea Thmey Daily, Koh Santepheap Daily have recently run articles spotlighting the long-lasting relations between Vietnam and Cambodia on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 - 2024)
On June 20, Kampuchea Thmey Daily ran an article "Cambodia-Vietnam 57 years of good neighbors, long-standing traditional friendship", highlighting that Cambodia and Vietnam are two neighboring countries in Indochina, in the lower Mekong River region. Both are located in the most important geopolitical positions, the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.
The two countries always have a close relationship, and share and support each other at regional and international forums. They have stood side by sides in the national liberation and unification in the past, as well as the country's construction and protection today, VNA reported.

Noting that June 24, 2024 marks the 57th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam, the article stressed that in the past 57 years, the relations have kept growing despite challenges. The relations have been developing more and more intensively, substantially and effectively in all fields, becoming an invaluable common asset of the two peoples and the two countries.
On June 23, Koh Santepheap newspaper ran an article mentioning the cooperative relationship between the two countries in many fields, especially politics and security.
The article clearly stated that as both Cambodia and Vietnam consider each other one of the top priorities in their respective foreign policy.
Previously, on June 22, the AKP published an article titled "Celebrating 57 years of Cambodia-Vietnam diplomatic relations: New heights of Cambodia-Vietnam political relations". The article provided comprehensively evaluations over the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries throughout history. It also introduced and updated new achievements in their relations in specific fields, especially politics.
The two sides affirmed that Cambodia-Vietnam relations are developing well and becoming increasingly deeper, practical and effective in all aspects, becoming a valuable common asset of the two countries' people and the most important factor ensuring their success in national construction and protection, according to the article.
Cambodia's national news agency expressed confidence that the two countries will continue to stand side by side toward the visions that make Cambodia a developed country by 2050, as well as Vietnam a high-income country by 2045.
New Vietnamese Ambassador pledges best efforts to boost ties with Thailand
Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung presented his letter of letter to Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua at a ceremony held on June 22.

The King of Thailand, in turn, applauded the good friendship between the two nations and hoped that both countries will continue to further enhance ties across multiple areas at all levels, from bilaterally and regionally to multilaterally.
The King said he believes that the bilateral friendship will continue to be solidified for the benefits of the two countries' people, thereby contributing to peace and prosperity in the region and the world.
He said he and the Thai Government will offer optimal conditions for the ambassador to successfully fulfill his duties.
First international airport in the Central Highlands: Lien Khuong Airport
Lien Khuong Airport in Lam Dong has officially been designated as the first international airport in the Central Highlands of Vietnam.
On the morning of June 23, the Ministry of Transport, in coordination with the People's Committee of Lam Dong province, organized a ceremony to announce the conversion of Lien Khuong Airport (located in Lien Nghia town, Duc Trong district) into an international airport. This milestone makes it the first international airport in the Central Highlands.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan, Acting Secretary of the Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thai Hoc, and other provincial leaders and department heads.
Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan highlighted that the transition of Lien Khuong Airport to international status is a result of the combined efforts of Lam Dong province and the entire aviation industry.
He emphasized the need for continued investment and upgrades to ensure the airport’s effective operation and its ability to connect with major economic centers. This includes collaboration between relevant units, the Provincial People's Committee, and the Vietnam Airlines Corporation.
Nguyen Ngoc Phuc, Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, remarked on the significant role of Lien Khuong International Airport for both the locality and the Central Highlands provinces.
He noted that direct flights to various countries would facilitate international tourism development and expedite international freight transport. Additionally, the airport’s international status is expected to enhance regional connectivity and leverage the potential advantages for Lam Dong and the Central Highlands.
Phuc also requested that the Vietnam Airlines Corporation invest in upgrading the airport from level 4D to 4E, as per approved regulations, cited VNN.

Lien Khuong Airport is classified as a 4D airport by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It features a 3,250-meter long and 45-meter wide runway, capable of handling code D aircraft such as the Boeing B757 and Airbus A300, along with equivalent or smaller aircraft.
According to the airport’s development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Ministry of Transport in May 2024, Lien Khuong Airport is designated as an international airport serving both civil and military purposes.
By 2030, Lien Khuong Airport is projected to be a 4E airport and a level 2 military airport, with a capacity of 5 million passengers and 20,000 tons of cargo per year. It will be able to accommodate code C aircraft like the Airbus A320, A321, and code E aircraft such as the Boeing B747, B787, and Airbus A350.
By 2050, the airport’s capacity is expected to increase to 7 million passengers and 30,000 tons of cargo per year. The runway will be extended by 350 meters, making it 3,600 meters long and 45 meters wide.
