Government decrees on Da Nang development announced

The Da Nang authorities announced the Government and the Prime Minister’s approval of the development of the central city on March 29.

It is one of the important events to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Liberation of Da Nang (March 29, 1975-2021).

At the ceremony, leaders of the Da Nang People's Committee provided information about the Decree implementing Resolution No. 119/2020/QH14 dated June 19, 2020 by the National Assembly on the pilot organisation of the Da Nang urban government model; Decision No. 359/QĐ-TTg dated March 15, 2021 approving the city’s adjusted general planning; Decision on the investment policy for the Lien Chieu port construction project; the policy allowing the formulation of a project to build Da Nang into a regional financial centre; and information on some policies on land prices in the city.

On behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung praised the achievements the Party Committee, government and people of Da Nang have achieved in recent years in building the city into a strongly-developed zone worth living in.

Deputy PM Dung suggested the local authorities and people continue to focus on restructuring the economy in association with the potential and advantages of the city and the whole region, in line with domestic, regional and international market demand, as well as ensuring an effective response to climate change and natural disaster prevention and control, according to NDO.

Legislators comment on Gov’t performance over last five years

Deputies of the 14th National Assembly (NA) discussed the Government’s report on its performance in the 2016-2021 tenure on March 29 as part of their ongoing 11th session.

Legislators held that digital transformation in the State apparatus will pave the way for the transition from a managing Government to a serving Government, thus creating a breakthrough in management.

Hoang Van Cuong, a deputy from Hanoi, said the 2016-2021 tenure was successful for Vietnam in all regards, with good GDP growth, a stable macro-economy, improved living conditions, and rising national economic scale, becoming one of the 40 largest economies in the world.

Deputy Luu Binh Nhuong from the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, meanwhile, pointed to shortcomings in the tenure, including a number of poor-quality bills submitted to the National Assembly.

In the next tenure, Nhuong suggested that the Government focus more on popularising laws and ensuring discipline in law building and enforcement, while strengthening inspections over the implementation of laws.

The Government should also continue speeding up administrative reforms and cut procedures that cause confusion among businesses and people or contain loopholes that can be abused for corruption.

He also said it should strengthen environmental protection, quickly implement a project on planting 1 billion trees, and exercise care about building sustainable urban areas along the banks of the Red River and the construction of flood drainage areas, NDO reported.

Deputies appreciate efforts, responsibility of State President, Government

National Assembly deputies have acknowledged and appreciated efforts, responsibility, achievements and imprints of the State President, the Government and the Prime Minister in the 2016-2021 tenure.

The NA devoted the whole day discussing the State President and Government’s performance reports in the tenure during the 14th legislature’s 11th session on March 29.

According to deputies, the success of the term is the combined result of the path of solidarity and integrity led by the General Secretary and State President, the result of the ruling standards of the National Assembly and the Government’s decisive and sincere actions, thus helping inspire people and businesses’ confidence and encourage them to join hands in making the country to overcome difficulties, disasters and diseases, and quickly adapt to global fluctuations.

They emphasised the importance of harmonious coordination between the Party Central Committee, the Party General Secretary and State President, the National Assembly, the Government, and the high consensus of the entire political system, people from all walks of life and the business community.

Many lawmakers said that there remain shortcomings and some cases that have not been fully solved, thus causing public concerns, including a lot of complaints and denunciations, especially those related to land issues.

Many of them proposed the Government pay more attention to the education and dissemination of laws, the assessment of draft laws and legal documents, and maintain the discipline of law making and enforcement, according to VOV.

Vietnam’s GDP estimated to expand 4.48% in Q1

Vietnam’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter of 2021 is estimated to rise 4.48%, higher than 3.68% recorded in the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) General Director Nguyen Thi Huong reported at a press conference on March 29.

The GSO leader said that the agro-forestry-fishery sector grew 3.16%, contributing 8.34% to the overall GDP growth, while industry and construction expanded 6.3%, and service sector grew 3.34%, contributing 55.96 and 35.7% to the total growth, respectively.

Huong attributed the result to the drastic and timely direction of the Government, the Prime Minister and efforts of ministries, sectors, people and businesses to continue implementing the dual targets of preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and developing the economy at the same time.

She said that in the first quarter of this year, the agro-forestry-fishery sector saw strong growth thanks to high rice and fruit production, controlled African swine flu and expanded markets for wood and forestry products.

Thanks to the good control of the COVID-19 pandemic and the optimization of free trade agreements, the service sector enjoyed positive signs. The growth of wholesale and retail was 6.45%, while that of the finance-banking and insurance sector was 7.3%. However, the transportation and warehouse sector and accommodation-catering services still saw decreases of 2.17% and 4.49%, respectively, NDO said.
