National Covid-19 caseload raises to 11,846,043

The national Covid-19 caseload rose to 11,846,043 on October 8, according to the Ministry of Health.

With 391 patients given the all clear during the day, the number of recoveries rose to 10,596,187. Meanwhile, there are 70 patients needing breathing support, cited VNA.

One death from Covid-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 43,153.

On October 7, an additional 2,327 doses of vaccines were administered, raising the total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccines injected to 260,249,088.

Vietnam calls for respect for int’l law in dispute settlement

Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN Dang Hoang Giang has called on countries to respect the principle of peaceful settlement of international disputes in the context of many conflicts taking place here and there globally.

Speaking at a meeting on October 7 of the Sixth Committee of the 77th UN General Assembly on promoting the rule of law at national and international levels, Ambassador Giang emphasized that in the context of many complicated conflicts taking place in the world, international law and the basic principles of the UN Charter are the basic foundation of the international system, according to VOV.

He called on countries to respect the principle of peaceful settlement of international disputes and uphold the role of international arbitration bodies in peaceful settlement of disputes, as well as promoting the rule of law at the international level.

Vietnam is committed to promoting the rule of law at both national and international levels, said the diplomat.

According to the Ambassador, it is necessary to promote the rule of law in different regions and Vietnam is making efforts along with other ASEAN countries to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous Southeast Asia.

He expressed Vietnam’s concern about recent complicated developments in the South China Sea known as the East Sea locally, saying these actions reduce trust among countries, increase tensions and affect peace, security and stability in the region.

The Ambassador requested that all parties concerned abide by international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and fully respect diplomatic and legal processes.

The Sixth Committee (legal) is one of the six main bodies of the United Nations General Assembly that consists of representatives of all 193 UN member states. It is tasked with reviewing, discussing and contributing to the progressive development of international law.

Vietnam makes active contributions to UNHRC’s 51st session

japaAmbassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), the World Trade Organization and other international organizations in Geneva, made active contributions to the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) which wrapped up on October 7 after four weeks of working.

Speaking at various discussion sessions, Ambassador Mai highlighted Vietnam's priorities and commitments in its candidacy to the UNHRC for the 2023-2025 term, reaffirming the Party and State’s consistent guidelines and policies of putting people at the centre of the development and ensuring that they can share in the fruits of this process.

The Ambassador also spotlighted Vietnam's efforts, commitments and achievements, as well as its capacity to contribute to the international community in the protection and promotion of human rights in the world; to promote dialogue and cooperation at the UNHRC in an objective and constructive spirit, in line with the UN's focuses and common concerns of the international community such as sustainable development, climate change response, protection and promotion of the rights of vulnerable groups, gender equality and the advancement of women.

Vietnam participated in several joint speeches with other countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the International Organization of La Francophonie and the of Like-Minded Group (LMG) to discuss commonly-prioritized human rights issues, and actively participate in consultation and development of draft resolutions of the 51st session, reported WVR.

Vietnam co-sponsored two annual resolutions on the right to develop and enhance technical cooperation, and build capacity in the field of human rights, thus contributing to promoting the priorities and interests of developing countries at the UNHRC.

Vietnam's active engagement in the council’s activities over the past years; the fact that it is one of the three key countries presiding over the introduction of the UNHRC's annual resolution on human rights and climate change; and its candidacy to the council for the 2023-2025 tenure demonstrate the country's people-centered policy with strong commitments and efforts to promote and protect human rights, especially in the year marking the 45th anniversary of Vietnam’s UN membership (September 20, 1977 – 2022).

The election of new members of the UNHRC for the new term, of which Vietnam is a candidate, will take place at the UN General Assembly in New York on October 11.

Vietnam, Japan boost cooperation in traditional medicine

A seminar on traditional medicine of Vietnam and Japan was held in Hanoi on October 7, attracting the participation of almost 100 experts and researchers in the areas from the two countries.

At the event, the participants exchanged experience in the application of advanced techniques in traditional medicine to raise the efficiency of community health care.

Nguyen The Thinh, head of the Traditional Medicine Management Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Health, said that there are 63 specialized hospitals in this area across the country.

Vietnam has set a goal that by 2030, all provinces and centrally-run cities will have a general hospital for traditional medicine, he said.

According to Truong Viet Binh, president of the Vietnam Traditional Medicine Association, the demand for treatment with traditional medicine is a trend not only in the East, but also in the world due to its great health benefits.

At the event, experts from Vietnam and Japan presented reports affirming the role of traditional medicine in people’s health care while proposing solutions to renew traditional treatment methods.

Int’l science film fest to be held across major Vietnamese cities

The 12th International Science Film is scheduled to take place from October 8 to December 31 in Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City, announced the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The festival is held annually by the Goethe Institute in Hanoi, THD Education Solutions Company, and the Vietnam Institute for Education Sciences (VNIES).
