Vietnam, Germany looks to deepen strategic partnership

The Vietnamese Embassy in Germany held a banquet on September 17 to mark Vietnam’s National Day (September 2), the 47th anniversary of the Vietnam-Germany diplomatic ties (September 23) and the 32nd German Unity Day (October 3).

Addressing the event, Ambassador to Germany Vu Quang Minh thanked the German people for their feelings and support extended to Vietnam during its struggle for national liberation in the past as well as national development process at present

Vietnam will continue to do its best as a reliable and responsible partner, always attaching importance to its cooperation and friendship with Germany and promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries, he said.

Martin Thummel, Deputy Head of the Department of Asia-Pacific region under the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs said during the Covid-19 pandemic over the past two years, the two countries have provided timely supported to each other with hundreds of thousands of masks given to Germany by Vietnam and 10,000 doses of vaccines donated to Vietnam by Germany. He emphasized that the vaccine donation program to Vietnam is one of Germany's most successful programs during the pandemic.

The German diplomat said many German businesses are expected to come to Vietnam to explore investment opportunities, cited VNA.

Germany and Vietnam will continue to promote cooperation in all fields to further promote the strategic partnership between the two countries in the coming time, he said.

Previously, on the same occasion, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Germany successfully organized a Vietnam-Germany friendship golf tournament, with the participation of 120 golfers from Vietnam, Germany and other countries.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Ambassador handed over gifts worth a total of 6,000 euros (donated by donors and golfers) to the German side and to representatives of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Red Cross to support charitable activities in Germany and Vietnam.

National Covid-19 caseload rises to 11,458,449

The national Covid-19 caseload rose to 11,458,449 on September 18, according to the Ministry of Health.

With 639 patients given the all clear during the day, the number of recoveries rose to 10,579,029. Meanwhile, there are 115 patients needing breathing support.

One death from Covid-19 was recorded in the past 24 hours. The total fatalities rose to 43,139, according to WVR.

On September 17, an additional 49,645 doses of vaccines were administered, raising the total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccines injected to 259,357,649.

Vietnam Socio-Economic Forum 2022 opens

The Vietnam Socio-Economic Forum 2022, themed “Reinforcing macro-economic foundation, promoting sustainable recovery and development”, opened in Hanoi on September 18.

About 400 delegates, including scientists, experts, ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic agencies and international organizations, lawmakers and businesspeople at home and abroad attended the event offline.

Several foreign experts and scientists were present at the event via videoconference.

In his opening speech, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the event holds significance as the legislatue is preparing for its fourth meeting to consider and decide on the country’s important soio-economic issues and lawbuilding.

It also affords a chance to collect important information to devise solutions to consolidating macro-economic foundation, overseeing fiscal and monetary as well as socio-economci policies, thus achieving sustainable recovery and development.

He asked delegates to mull over regional and global economic, financial and monetary situation, give mid and long-term forecasts for Vietnam, and assess opportunites and challenges to the economy in 2022, 2023 and the next period.

They were also asked to review the socio-economic recovery and development program in line with the NA’s Resolution No.43/NQ/QH15 and the Government’s Resolution No.11/NQ-CP.

The one-day event featured an opening ceremony, a plenary session and two thematic sessions on promoting institutional reform – perfecting land policy and important solution to socio-economic recovery and development, pushing forward corporate support policies to create a driving force for production recovery and sustainable development, reported NDO.

Speaking at the event, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang said the Vietnamese economy has overcome the most difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the past nine months, the economic growth has been positive while the macro-economic stability has been maintained and inflation has been under control. This year, the economy is forecast to ensure major balances and the growth is optimistic.

Without preparations, the Vietnamese economy is likely to meet difficulites amid uncertain developments in the world, he said.

He added that Vietnam must focus on maintaining macro-economic stability while actively and flexibly coping with rapid developments in the world, which is key to maintaining economic growth.

According to him, reinforcing macro-economic foundation not only lies in fiscal and monetary policies but also in tackling obstacles in the economy and effectively tapping every social resource.

In the end, he said such will make it easier for Vietnam to switch to a new growth model soon on the back of sci-tech and innovation.

Vietnam-Hungary friendly gathering held

The Vietnam – Hungary Friendship Association held a friendly gathering in Hanoi on September 18 on the occasion of the two countries’ national days.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Association Vu Hoang Linh said the association will further step up bilateral cooperation in science, education-training, culture, economy and trade. It will also renew operations and popularise the images of Vietnam to Hungary and the Vietnamese community living there.

Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Baloghdi Tibor expressed his delight at growing bilateral ties in various areas, including in education. At present, over 800 Vietnamese are living and studying in the European country.

He wished that in the near future, the association would continue working closely with the Hungarian Embassy in Vietnam to hold practical activities contributing to bilateral friendship, cited VNA.

On the occasion, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Nguyen Phuong Nga presented the insignia “For Peace, Friendship among Nations” to the association’s members.

Vietnamese Goods Week underway in Thailand

A Vietnamese Goods Week entitled “Taste of Vietnam” is taking place at Big C supermarket chain in Bangkok, Thailand until September 28.

The event, which kicked off on September 15, is jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand and Berli Junker Public Company (BJC).

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh spoke highly of the efforts of Thai and Vietnamese companies to promote the export of Vietnamese products to Thailand, saying it helps to realize the bilateral trade target of 25 billion USD by 2025 as committed by leaders of the two countries.

The event aims not only to promote Vietnamese products to Thai consumers, but also to enhance the friendship between the two countries' people, he added.

For his part, Aswin Techajareonvikul, General Director and President of BJC, spoke highly of the quality of Vietnam's products, especially agricultural and food products. According to him, some Vietnamese dishes such as pho (noodle soup) and bun cha (rice vermicelli with grilled pork and fresh herbs) are becoming more and more popular among Thai people, VOV reported.

He proposed the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand facilitate expansion of cooperation between BJC and Vietnamese companies.
