PM meets representatives from Indonesian enterprises, organization

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 5 received leaders of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) and Indonesian enterprises while attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Jakarta.

At the meeting, Indonesian businesses highly evaluated the potential for cooperation between businesses of the two countries.

After telling the Vietnamese PM about their business performance in Vietnam, they showed their hopes to continue investing there in such fields as finance – banking, green transition, particularly renewable energy and electric vehicles, mining, real estate, and agricultural production.

PM Chinh said that nearly 70 years after establishing diplomatic relations, especially the 10 years of their strategic partnership, the cooperation relationship between the two countries is developing prosperously towards a comprehensive strategic partnership.

That is an important foundation for businesses of the two countries to cooperate, invest, and develop, he said.

The PM highly valued Indonesian businesses that have invested in Vietnam, cited VNA.

He welcomed and agreed with them on the areas of the businesses’ interest that are in line with the development orientation of the two countries and the world.

The leader asked businesses of the two countries, especially KADIN and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), to strengthen connectivity and information exchanges, develop specific, practical, long-term, stable cooperation programs, projects, and agreements, and ensure harmonized interests of the parties.

According to the PM, in the coming time, Vietnam will continue to target maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting growth, controlling inflation, and ensuring major balances of the economy.

The country will continue to promote administrative reform and strengthen the application of science-technology, innovation, digital transformation, the development of the digital economy, digital society, green economy, circular economy, and sharing economy.

The PM called on Indonesian businesses and investors to continue to optimize the capabilities and advantages of the two sides, promote social responsibility, and prosper together with Vietnam.

He called on Indonesian enterprises to boost investment in areas in which Indonesia has strengths and Vietnam has demand.

With the motto of "harmonious benefits, shared risks", the Government of Vietnam affirms to accompany, support, and create favorable conditions for foreign investors in general and Indonesian ones, he said.

Cooperation with Laos, and Cambodia top priority in Vietnam’s external policy

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a working breakfast with his Laotian counterpart Sonexay Siphandone and his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet on September 5 as part of the occasion of attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Jakarta.

The leaders informed one another of their respective nation’s socio-economic development, whilst exchanging views on common co-operation fields, as well as discussing regional and international issues of shared concern.

The realities of an independence struggle, national security, and development, along with international integration have affirmed that continuously consolidating and tightening ties between Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia is an objectively essential need, holding great strategic significance for all three countries, reported VOV.

Therefore, the trio consented to continue maintaining regular bilateral and trilateral exchanges and contacts, with the working breakfast mechanism among the PMs of the three countries on the occasion of their attendance at international meetings in order to tighten solidarity, friendship, and cooperation. Indeed, it offers the chance to compare notes on regional and international issues of common concern, in addition to finding solutions to problems arising in the relations of the three countries.

The three leaders concurred to increase the overall effectiveness of existing trilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the early organization of the 12th Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Development Triangle Summit and the first meeting of the Chairs of the three National Assemblies in Laos later this year. This is along with striving to promote exchanges and training of youths and young leaders in order to foster the future of cooperative relations among the three countries.

They said that security and defense linkages have made significant progress, with the group unanimous on the continued implementation of existing agreements and cooperation mechanisms, the sharing of information, and the improvement of collaboration efficiency in combating cyber and cross-border crimes.

The PMs underlined the need to have more policies and measures to facilitate trade and investment ties, with a specific focus on cross-border trade.

PM Chinh affirmed that links with Laos and Cambodia will always be a top priority in the Vietnamese foreign policy.

He, therefore, suggested that the three countries continue dealing with existing problems to swiftly finalize the land border demarcation and marker planting to build and maintain borderlines of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, for the ultimate benefit of the people of each country.

He voiced his hope that the Laotian and Cambodian governments will continue paying attention to and offering optimal conditions for the Vietnamese communities in the countries.

Over 22 million Vietnamese students nationwide start new school year 2023-24

Schools across the nation were adorned with flags and flowers on Tuesday, setting a joyful tone as students enthusiastically took part in the official opening ceremony to inaugurate the 2023-24 school year.

Nguyen Kim Son, the Minister of Education and Training, introduced plans for an educational reform pilot program at the preschool level, highlighting the anticipation of various innovations in the upcoming academic year.

In this crucial capacity, the education sector is ready to focus on 12 key objectives, aiming to successfully achieve the goals established for the 2023-24 school year.

Among these, the top priority is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of education management.

Specifically, the education sector will continue to align with the views and policies of the Party and the State on the development of education and training.

It will review, amend, and supplement the legal documents system, eliminate difficulties and obstacles, and create a favorable environment for the sector's growth.

The industry will prioritize the improvement of preschool education quality and the universalization of education for five-year-old children, as well as the effective implementation of the 2018 general education program.

Its objectives include the implementation of literacy programs, the promotion of lifelong learning, and the establishment of a learning society.

This school year, the sector will also develop a plan for the high school graduation exam in accordance with the general education program of 2018 and submit it to the competent authorities for approval, according to VNS.

In terms of teachers, the sector has set the task of improving the quality of teachers, lecturers, and educational administrators at all levels.

It will review its human resources to supplement teachers at schools and research and develop policies for teacher recruitment.

The sector will provide support and create favorable conditions for teachers to work.

To address facility challenges, the industry will effectively utilize investment resources for education, with a priority on acquiring teaching and learning equipment for preschools and schools in ethnic and mountainous areas.

In addition, the MoET also focuses on strengthening political and moral education, national defense and security, and physical education for students, while ensuring school safety.

Regarding higher education, the sector has set the task of developing a network of higher education institutions and promoting university autonomy.

Specifically, it will formulate a master plan for the network of higher education and pedagogical institutions for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Furthermore, the MoET will intensify inspection efforts, advance digital transformation, facilitate international integration, and enhance education communication.

HCM City earns high revenue from tourism on National Day

Ho Chi Minh City earned approximately VND2.9 trillion in tourism revenue during the course of the four-day National Day holiday.

According to figures released by the municipal tourism department, the southern city welcomed around 420,000 domestic visitors and 37,600 foreigners as part of the occasion, an increase of 15% compared to the same period from last year.

Furthermore, the southern metropolis’ accommodation establishments served a total of 162,000 guests while the average occupancy rate of hotel rooms reached 80%, up 6.7% on-year, cited VOV.

As part of efforts to attract more tourists, the southern city's tourism industry is making preparations to welcome international delegations from different countries during the International Travel Expo Ho Chi Minh City (ITE-HCMC 2023), which is due to take place from September 7 to September 9.

Simultaneously, the city will also continue to implement plans aimed at welcoming tourists to visit the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and People's Committee on the last Saturday and Sunday of each month.

Ho Chi Minh City is striving to attract five million international visitors and more than 35 million domestic tourists this year, with total tourism revenue estimated to reach VND160 trillion.

Petrol prices rise in the latest adjustment

The retail prices of petrol rose in the latest adjustment on September 5 by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance.

This is the sixth consecutive hike in recent times, reported VNA.

Accordingly, the price of E5RON92 went up VND140 per liter to VND23,470 (US$0.97) while that of RON95-III increased by VND270 to VND24,870 per liter.

The prices of diesel oil went up VND290 to VND22,640 per liter while kerosene rose by VND510 to VND22,810 per liter.

That of mazut oil decreased by VND280 per liter to VND17,700 per liter.

In this price adjustment, relevant units decided to not extract money from petrol sales for the price stabilization fund.

Since the beginning of this year, petrol prices have undergone 25 adjustments, with 15 times up, seven down, and three unchanged.
