The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, diversification, and multilateralization, advocating for multilateralism and the central role of the UN. He affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to collaborate, share, and contribute with the UN in implementing global, comprehensive, and inclusive solutions to current challenges, supporting peace, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring human rights.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister discussed specific priorities in the upcoming cooperation between Vietnam and the UN development system. This includes Vietnam’s three strategic breakthroughs in institutional reform, infrastructure, and human resources, and the implementation of the outcomes of the Summit of the Future, accelerating progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), responding to climate change, advancing the Political Declaration on establishing a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), digital transformation, and restructuring food systems.

The Government leaders also informed Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, its progress in implementing Sustainable Development Goals, and its commitments on climate change, food security, and nutrition, for the Vietnamese people and globally, with an export of eight million tons of rice in 2024.

Vietnam is currently focused on three key pillars, including building a socialist democracy, establishing a socialist rule-of-law state, and a socialist-oriented market economy. Within this, six central tasks are prioritized, including an independent foreign policy, economic development, preservation of Vietnamese culture, building a comprehensive national defense and people’s security, implementing the "four nos" defense policy, ensuring social security, and fostering a clean, strong Party, said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that UN agencies in Vietnam continue close collaboration with ministries, sectors, and localities, providing policy advice and mobilizing international resources, particularly in science, technology, innovation, national governance capacity, and human resources training. This cooperation is essential to meet Vietnam’s development needs and align with its priorities in the coming period, especially towards achieving its two centennial goals of becoming a modern, industrialized middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income developed country by 2045.

At the reception, the UN Resident Coordinator and heads of UN agencies in Vietnam commended Vietnam’s role, strong commitment, and positive contributions to UN mechanisms. The UN especially applauded Vietnam’s efforts in promoting shared priorities of the UN and the international community in peacekeeping and sustainable development. The heads of the UN agencies in Vietnam highly valued the country's recent development efforts and achievements, especially in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals, improving education quality, human resource training, and ensuring gender equality.

UN agency leaders affirmed their commitment to furthering strong cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in implementing the outcomes of the Summit of the Future, promoting digital transformation, applying artificial intelligence (AI), achieving JETP goals, combating climate change, and environmental protection, enhancing resilience against natural disasters, and improving public health.
