Vietnam Red Cross Society Mobilizes 1.2 Million Gifts for "Tet of Kindness 2024"

In the framework of "Humanitarian Strength 2023," held at the Temple of Literature (Hanoi) on Nov, 22, the Vietnam Red Cross Society launched a 77-day campaign to mobilize 1.2 million gifts to support people in difficult circumstances in the upcoming Tet.

(Photo: Dinh Hoa) said, "Humanitarian Strength" is held annually to express gratitude to domestic and international partners who have contributed to humanitarian activities and the Red Cross movement over the past year. Thereby, partners continue to mobilize resources to support the community.

"Humanitarian Strength 2023" is held to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (November 23, 1946 - November 23, 2023). At the event, the Central Vietnam Red Cross Society launched the 2024 Tet of Kindness movement. In the next 77 days, it looks to gather 1.2 million gifts with a total value of VND 700 billion VND for disadvantaged people.

Activities in the movement will be implemented from January 20 to February 4, 2024, with 20 "Tet of Kindness" programs at the central level and 200 at the provincial level. The program aims to support poor, near-poor households, families of Agent Orange victims, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.

On behalf of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Bui Thi Hoa called on all Red Cross officers, members, volunteers, and youth; domestic and foreign businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in the program by sending messages to the National Humanitarian Electronic Information Portal, installing the "Volunteer 2022" application and joining in other practical actions.

Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, said the annual "Humanitarian Strength" program is a focal point to connect and create spillover power to support the people to overcome natural disasters, as well as taking care of people in difficult circumstances so that they can have a warm Tet. According to the report, the "Tet of Kindness" movement in 2023 has helped more than 2.6 million people.

“On behalf of the Party and State leaders, I call on agencies, organizations, businesses, philanthropists, and people of all walks of life to continue to join forces and help people in difficult circumstances so that there will be a warm "Tet of Kindness" in 2024, with the spirit: Give love to receive happiness," said Do Van Chien.

"Humanitarian Strength 2023" was launched within the framework of the 11th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement (AP-11), hosted by the Vietnam Red Cross Society. Themed "Becoming Disaster Ready in Asia-Pacific," the conference takes place over 4 days (November 20-23), aiming to promote international cooperation for the humanitarian movement.
