(VNF) - Vietnam will join more than 150 countries in celebrating French cuisine at the global gastronomic event Goût de France (Good France), on March 21st, the first day of spring.

Organised by France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chef Alain Ducasse, the Goût de France food festival is an annual event that aims to commemorate French cuisine and being named as a feature of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010.

The event is organised in 41 prestigious restaurants in Vietnam’s biggest cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang and Vung Tau.

Dinners served in participating restaurants will once again honour the merits of French cuisine, its capacity for innovation and its values of enjoying and respecting the principles of high-quality and environmentally responsible cuisine.

The event is organised in over 3,000 restaurants around the world with a view to honouring the excellence of French cuisine, its openness to influences from all over the world and the values that it conveys: bringing people together over a shared meal, the pleasure of taste, and the balance between human beings and the products of nature, said said French Ambassador Bertrand Lortholary at a meeting on March 20th in Hanoi.

Chefs of French cuisine such as two-star Michelin Chef Alain Dutournier and Chef Robert Vifian of Paris-based Vietnamese restaurant, Tan Dinh, will have a chance to show off their skills and share experience with peers, thus celebrating France’s gastronomy in dinner night at the France’s Embassy in Hanoi, the diplomat said.

According to Ambassador Bertrand Lortholary, French potatoes will available at big retail stores as 3,000 tons are being exported to Vietnam in the first quarter of next year. The country has became the first European country to sell the commodity to Vietnam. France has more than 400 species of potato, so it can meet the perse demand of Vietnamese consumers.

After apple and kiwi, potato is the third agricultural product which France can export to Vietnam.

Emphasising the 45th founding anniversary of Vietnam-France diplomatic relations and the fifth anniversary of its strategic partnership in 2018, the French diplomat said he believed that the two countries’ time-honoured relations would continue to create opportunities for Vietnam and France to promote exchanges and develop relations in all areas./.
