At the meeting, the representative of WIPO's Division for Asia and the Pacific also reviewed cooperation activities with Vietnam in recent times.
Some outstanding areas of bilateral cooperation include the establishment of the Vietnam Intellectual Property Research Institute to improve skills and knowledge for experts, entrepreneurs and civil servants, supporting Vietnamese small and medium enterprises, and startups to join WIPO online networks.
WIPO supports Vietnam in perfecting laws related to innovation and intellectual property, developing human resources, and especially improving the skills necessary to access and make the best use of global science and technology databases. WIPO also supports Vietnam in building innovation indexes at the local level.
In addition, the two sides are also implementing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to implement Vietnam's national intellectual property strategy. WIPO also welcomed many high-level delegations from Vietnam both at the central and local levels.
Andrew Ong, director of WIPO's Division for Asia and the Pacific, said WIPO attaches great importance to cooperation with Vietnam.
He believes that Vietnam is a bright spot in innovation activities as well as supporting small and medium-sized businesses owned by women.
He said WIPO has shared these examples on the WIPO website to encourage, spread, and support businesses to promote their images, reach target markets, and increase exports.
Ambassador Mai Phan Dung appreciated WIPO's effective support in implementing technical assistance projects and improving professional capacity for human resources in the field of intellectual property in Vietnam.
He pledged to continue strengthening collaboration between the Vietnamese Delegation to Geneva and the WIPO, and showed his hope that the organization will maintain support for Vietnam’s activities related to intellectual property.
