Vietnam - United States Cooperate to Strengthen Women's Empowerment

Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga had a working session with United States Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper to discuss women empowerment on the afternoon of April 8.

At the working session, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Ha Thi Nga spoke about the Vietnamese women's movement and the organization's recent actions. According to the official, Vietnam has achieved remarkable results in gender equality and women's empowerment, with impressive figures such as 16% female participation in peacekeeping activities (the average rate in other countries is about 10%), and 30.26% female National Assembly representatives ( the average rate in Asia is 21% and the global average is 26.7%).

President Ha Thi Nga also expressed her gratitude to the US Embassy in Vietnam for accompanying and supporting the Association's work for the development of Vietnamese women. In March 2023, the Association and the US Ambassador to Vietnam successfully organized the "Mothers and Children with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Festival" at Duong Quang Ham High School in Hung Yen province to raise awareness and promote the role of women and girls in STEM.

Ambassador Marc E. Knapper expressed his admiration for the Vietnam Women's Union's recent efforts to promote gender equality. He hopes that the US Embassy in Vietnam and the Vietnam Women's Union will continue to collaborate in the future to enhance women's roles in the workplace, as well as their roles in peacekeeping and human trafficking prevention operations.

President Ha Thi Nga suggested at the meeting that the two organizations cooperate to organize training courses to improve entrepreneurship skills and capacity for candidates participating in the National Assembly and People's Councils elections at all levels, as well as jointly organize an activity in the form of a forum or workshop to mark the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US in 2025.

In addition, according to the proposals for cooperation. President Ha Thi Nga and Ambassador Marc E. Knapper believe that in the future, the Vietnam Women's Union and the US Embassy in Vietnam will organize more activities to empower women and strengthen women's roles in society and the workplace, thereby contributing to elevating the Vietnam- US relations , including strengthening people-to-people exchange.
