During the resistance war against the US, under the name of the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the American People (also known as the Vietnam - America Committee), VUS actively worked and propagated the righteousness of the Vietnamese resistance war and Vietnam's policy of solidarity with the American people.

According to Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh, Chairman of Vietnam - US Society, during the war, a movement to support peace and justice for Vietnam broke out widely in the US and other countries. The VUS also built a wide network of organizations and individuals that united with and supported Vietnam, not only during the war but also in the following decades that followed.

Since the end of the war in 1975, the VUS has actively promoted people-to-people diplomacy inconsistent with the development of Vietnam-US relations.

Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh said that the comprehensive partnership framework established in 2013 both reflects the achieved results and opens a new era for the two countries' relations and cooperation in various fields.

"The 10-year journey of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership (2013-2023) marks the strongest development period in the two countries' relations in all fields: from politics, diplomacy, to economy, trade, investment, security and defense to education, science and technology, tourism, people-to-people exchanges and overcoming the consequences of war," said Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh.

Together with the development of the relationship between the two countries, the VUS's activities and network of partners have gradually developed and diversified. VUS continues to strengthen traditional friends, including leftist friends, peace activists, veterans, and humanitarian organizations; connect with the next generations of traditional friends; step by step connect with partners and expand its network in various fields, such as with research and training institutions, universities, high schools, non-governmental organizations or some religious organizations.

In the 2021-2026 tenure, one of VUS's priority tasks is expanding and diversifying the network of partners to contribute to strengthening people-to-people diplomacy in the new situation.

The VUS will continue to strengthen its traditional network of friends, including connecting with the next generations. The VUS will gradually expand and diversify the network of partners, in line with the development momentum of the two countries' relations and Vietnam's foreign policy, based on the new spirit of sharing, interweaving benefits, combined with a tradition of affection and friendship.

The Association continues to actively connect with partners, organizations, and individuals who have interest, sentiment, and priority in cooperation with Vietnam, and uses the help of reputable organizations and individuals to expand its network.

Along with that, the VUS gradually strengthens its organization and apparatus.

The association also expands its internal connections with associations of friends who are interested in and have cooperated with the United States, to communicate, coordinate and increase resonance. They can be associations, film promotion associations, cultural organizations, art, science, technology institutes, musicians, writers, and veterans.
