Vietnam-USA Society Elects New President

On Dec. 3, 2021, in Hanoi, the Vietnam-USA Society held its 4th National Congress for the 2021-2026 tenure in both in-person and virtual forms in Hanoi.
The event welcomed Le Hoai Trung, member of the Party Central Committee, head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, Nguyen Quoc Dung, deputy minister of foreign affairs; and Phan Anh Son, vice president and general secretary of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.
Besides, the event was attended by leaders of organizations, representatives of ministries and agencies, and members of the Vietnam-USA Society in localities. Representatives of the US Embassy in Vietnam, the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham), and many American friends and partners also attended and congratulated the congress.

Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien, president of the Vietnam-USA Society, said: "In the victory of Vietnam's diplomacy, the organization has made positive contributions, utilizing people-to-people diplomacy channel to effectively support the channel of the party and state diplomacy in strengthening relations, minimizing differences, enhancing trust, and develop cooperation opportunities between the two states and peoples."
The Vietnam-USA Society will focus on three works.
The first is promoting the organization's dynamism and creativity, overcoming its limitations to further develop the Vietnam-USA comprehensive partnership to best serve the country's "new strategic period of development" until 2030 - 2045.
The second is improving the quality and effectiveness of the organization's activities to maximize the relations between traditional channels with social classes and localities in the United States, taking advantage of the US friendship and support.
The third is building a large, highly qualified, and skilled staff to work on people-to-people diplomacy with the USA to gradually build a regular, modern, and comprehensive diplomacy channel, creating a network of American friends compatible with the new era of bilateral relations.

Le Hoai Trung recognized the organization's achievements in the past term. He said the core contents of the Party and State's foreign policy approved by the 13th National Party Congress noted issues related to people-to-people diplomacy.
Trung said he hoped the organization would continue to make efforts in its position and role as a longstanding Vietnam-USA people's friendship organization.
The Congress approved the draft documents presented by the Executive Board of the last term, discussed directions and activities in the coming term, approved the amended draft of the organization's charter, conducted democratic consultations, elected a new leadership board of the next term.
The board includes 41 members of the executive committee, 11 members of the standing committee. Pham Quang Vinh, former deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, former Ambassador of Vietnam to the US was elected as the organization's president for the term 2021-2026.

Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh said he hoped to continue receiving attention and direction for the organization in the coming term.
He was grateful for the enthusiastic cooperation and support of the US embassy and American friends and partners in the organization's activities.
The new president said he hoped that in the next term, there would be breakthrough developments in the people-to-people diplomacy between Vietnam and the USA, contributing to bringing the bilateral relations to a higher level for the sake of the two peoples, for peace, stability, and development of the region and the world.

With last term's achievements, the Vietnam-USA Society and Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien were awarded the Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister.
Leaders of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations presented banners to congratulate the congress, awarded certificates of merit to five of the Vietnam-USA Society's member and local agencies, and medals for peace and friendship among nations for eight individuals.

In the third term, the Vietnam-USA Society has achieved outstanding results such as organizing effective and diverse solidarity and friendship activities, significantly expanding the network of new partners while maintaining good relations with traditional friends. Activities serving the motto "cooperation for mutual benefits" have become a priority in the organization's direction. The Vietnam-USA Society also promotes the overcoming of war consequences through reconciliation. The organization is a pioneer in foreign affairs research and consultation. It has established and held effective operations of the Vietnam-US Research and International Cooperation Center in the past 10 years. The role of the organization's Vietnamese - USA magazine has become increasingly important. The organization has made a remarkable new development in renovating its activities to meet the requirements of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and improving its operation using new technologies. |
