The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd running of the FIFA World Cup competition, the quadrennial international men's football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022. This will be the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world. This will be the second World Cup held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan. In addition, the tournament will be the last to involve 32 teams, with an increase to 48 teams scheduled for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The reigning World Cup champions are France. Due to Qatar's intense summer heat, this World Cup will be held from late-November to mid-December, making it the first tournament not to be held in May, June, or July; it is to be played in a reduced timeframe of around 28 days.

Vietnam vs Australia: Date and Time

Based on the draw results announced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Vietnamese team will be in Group B, with Australia, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Oman.

Meanwhile, Group A includes the Republic of Korea and the five West Asian squads of Iran, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

The groups’ top teams and runners-up will qualify for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, two third-place squads are to face each other and then the winner will play a match with a representative from other continent for a berth at the world's biggest football event.

Vietnam made history for advancing to the third and final round of the World Cup qualifiers for the first time. They were placed in Pot 6 among six groups for the draw, together with Lebanon.

With two wins and one loss in the final matches in Group G of the second qualifiers hosted by the UAE, Vietnam earned 2.79 more points and ranked 11th among 12 teams competing in the third qualifiers.

Australia may lose home advantage in World Cup qualifiers

The Socceroos will lose home advantage in the clash with China next month and probably Vietnam because of Australia's quarantine regulations.

The World Cup qualifier between Australia and China was originally scheduled to be played in Sydney on Sept. 2. However, the state government requires two-week quarantine for any international arrivals.

After failing to reach an agreement on the quarantine procedure, Football Australia decided the upcoming match with China would be played in a neutral Asian venue.

If the current Covid-19 situation in Australia continues, the national team would have to keep playing upcoming World Cup qualifiers at neutral venues, including the clash with Vietnam on Jan. 27, 2022. Before this, Australia will first visit Hanoi to play Vietnam in My Dinh National Stadium on Sept. 7, five days after their bout with China.

"If you look at home versus away records at this level, the former count for a lot - it’s an extra player on the pitch. That’s our big challenge at the moment. I’m confident we will be playing at home by the end of the year if we can get things under control, particularly in Sydney," Football Australia CEO James Johnson told media site News Corp.

Where to watch World Cup 2022 in Vietnam?

Tech giant FPT has purchased the screening rights for the final round of World Cup Asian qualifiers, including Vietnam’s matches.

All games will be broadcast exclusively via FPT TV and FPT Play. Ten Vietnamese qualifiers can also be viewed on mobile app Foxy and FPT Play Box.

Vietnam advanced to the final round of World Cup Asian qualifiers after the second round concluded Tuesday.

In the final round, Vietnam and 11 other teams will be divided into two groups of six to compete for World Cup slots. The top two teams of each group will directly qualify, while third-placed teams play for a slot in the World Cup playoffs.

The final round is set to take place between Sept. 2, 2021 and March 29, 2022. The draw for the final round will be held on June 24 at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) headquarters in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia.

Vietnam also qualified for Asian Cup 2023, for which FPT also acquired broadcasting rights, along with AFC from 2021 to 2024.
