Vietnamese Delegation in Geneva Joins Asian Harvest Festival

Members of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN) attended an Asian Harvest Festival at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva on June 2.
Hosted by the Asian Ambassadors’ Wives Association in Geneva in collaboration with the delegations of Asian countries, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organizations in Geneva, the event aimed to promote the diverse culture in Asia.
The Vietnamese delegation joined a traditional costume performance at the event. Its booth also displayed Vietnamese agricultural products including rice, coffee, tea, cashew nut, and fruits; and others such as silk scarves, handicraft products, and souvenirs.
The festival offers a chance for the Vietnamese delegation to popularise the wet rice civilisation of Vietnam where harvest festivals have become part of the daily life.

Furthermore, visitors had the opportunity to savour Asian flavors, enjoy delicious food and cultural programs, as well as excellent art performances that have helped to strengthen co-operation and close relations between member states.
The harvest festival in Vietnam usually takes place early in the spring when farmers and villagers hold celebrations to give thanks to heaven and earth and pray for a year of favorable rain, good harvest, and good harvest. health and prosperous life for all. The harvest festival also takes place after the rice harvest season usually in late autumn in September, October or November depending on the lunar calendar.

In his opening speech, General Director of WIPO Daren Tang said the event contributes to promoting culture identities of Asian nations, and strengthening close cooperation among its member countries.
"This is an event that contributes to promoting Asia’s diverse culture by creating conditions for Asian countries to display handicrafts, unique agricultural products, specialties, and catering services. media, music, ethnic dance… Visitors have the opportunity to experience Asian flavors at the goods, enjoy delicious food and cultural programs."
The festival also provides an opportunity for customers to participate in an entrance ticket screening allowing them to win prizes through the Lucky Draw.

The event helped strengthen cooperation and close relations between the members at the same time towards humanitarian goals and social welfare. Funds collected from the festival's activities have been donated to charity organisations.
The Asia Harvest Festival is the continuation of the festival “Taste of Asia” in October last year - the opening event for cultural promotion activities at WIPO’s headquarters after a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
