"Mai" by director producer Tran Thanh is set to make its debut in various countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Slovakia, following its record-breaking success in Vietnam.

Accordingly, "Mai" will be shown in Europe, America, and Canada starting from March 22nd. The movie has been acquired by 3388 Films, which plans to release it in over 100 cinemas across multiple countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. This marks the largest premiere opening for a Vietnamese-produced film in North America and Europe. Additionally, it will be the first time a Vietnamese film will be simultaneously screened on the same day across two continents.

The founder of 3388 Films believed this acquisition would continue to break the international distribution norms outside the domestic US market.

"When we released 'Bo Gia' (Dad, I'm Sorry), it changed the film industry's perception of the potential of a Vietnamese film in the US box office. We released the film in 50 cinemas in the US, contrary to regulations at that time, which allowed Vietnamese films to be screened in no more than 10-18 theaters. Now, with 'Mai,' we are pushing boundaries and once again exploring uncharted territories. We have partners who share progressive thinking and support our belief, understanding that it takes time and courage to continuously explore market opportunities and seize and develop them," said 3388 Films founder.

According to VTC News, "Mai" has become the first Vietnamese film to surpass VND 500 billion in Vietnam's box office in less than four weeks. Alongside the revenues of "Nha Ba Nu" (Miss Granny) with 475 billion and "Bo Gia" with VND 427 billion, comedian/director/producer Tran Thanh now owns the top three highest-grossing films at the Vietnamese box office.

The film revolves around the life of the protagonist, Mai (played by actress Phuong Anh Dao), a nearly 40-year-old massage therapist who coincidentally met musician Duong (played by Tuan Tran) and the two started to form a passionate bond.
