Attending the event were Nguyen Ngoc Thin - President of the General Association, representatives of overseas Vietnamese associations in several provinces, and a large number of people of Vietnamese living and studying in Bangkok and neighboring localities.
Tran Xuan Muoi - Vice President of the General Association of Vietnamese in Thailand said that this is the first time expatriates from Bangkok and neighboring provinces participated in electing members to the overseas Vietnamese Association in Bangkok’s Executive Board. Preparations have been underway for nearly a year, starting from reviewing statistics on the number of Vietnamese people living in Bangkok and neighboring localities to finding capable and enthusiastic people to participate in the association's work.
Tran Xuan Muoi said the capital city of Thailand is a key area for the community, welcoming all delegations from Vietnam for working or visiting purposes. Therefore, it needs a strong association to meet the demand of overseas Vietnamese and represent the general association as well as the expatriates from across Thailand to host distinguished guests from Vietnam.
Nguyen Thi Loi, 75 years old and has lived in Bangkok for more than 40 years, expressed her excitement when casting her vote, which was held solemnly and seriously. She hoped that the new Executive Board would have many practical activities to gather overseas Vietnamese and develop the Association, actively contributing to promoting the overseas Vietnamese community’s strengths in Bangkok, which has many intellectuals and successful businessmen. Therefore, the Association could restore and develop the movement of teaching and learning the Vietnamese language for young generations, as well as building and preserving the traditional cultural values of the homeland in this capital.
Meanwhile, the President of the General Association Nguyen Ngoc Thin, said the election serves as an example for overseas Vietnamese associations in other Thai localities to follow.
He affirmed that the general association will stand side by side with and assist the new Executive Board in organizing activities to help the community develop businesses, preserve traditional culture, and promote the learning of the Vietnamese language, with the slogan "Speaking Vietnamese together, speaking Vietnamese at home."
