(VNF) - Vietnamese community in Germany and Europe has petitioned Chancellor Angela Merkel for bringing South China Sea issue to the G20 Summit.
On the morning of June 30, Prof. Dr Nguyen Van Thoai – Chairman of Vietnamese Union in Germany, on behalf of Vietnamese community in Europe handed a petition on the East Sea issue to Chancellor Angela Merkel through her representative at the Prime Minister’s Office. The open letter of the Vietnamese community in Europe has accused China of wrongdoing, violating international conventions, seriously affecting the marine environment. According to the petition, the act of breaking coral reefs to replenish artificial islands, blatantly claiming sovereignty over 90% of South China Sea is unreasonable, rejected by the Arbitral Tribunal International. China's aggressive building of military bases to militarize the South China Sea has caused tension and instability in the region, threatening international freedoms in the South China Sea, where transports up to 40% of goods of the whole world.
The petition calls on Chancellor Angela Merkel and the German government to pay more attention to the South China Sea issue, condemning China's aggressive actions, demanding China's immediate termination of these illegal actions and supporting the resolution of conflicts by peaceful means on the basis of international law.

The petition suggests Angela Merkel put matters on territorial conflicts including the South China Sea issue on the agenda and on the final declaration of the G20 Summit in Hamburg.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thoai said that the petition reflects the attitude of Vietnamese overseas to China's aggressive actions.
In recent times, China has carried out militarization on the South China Sea, regardless of the strong condemnation and opposition of international community. Therefore, overseas Vietnamese want to contribute their voices to compatriots in the country in order to fight against China's actions./.
