Vietnamese Official Proposes 6 Solutions for Vietnam-China Economic Cooperation

During the session, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized six core proposals to further strengthen economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and China.

First, ensure a seamless supply chain. Minister Dien highlighted the need for both countries to enhance collaboration to ensure efficient customs clearance at border gates. This includes streamlining procedures and providing advance notice of customs requirements for products such as electrical goods, agricultural and aquatic products, and fruits. He also suggested coordinating the distribution of goods across land border gates and exploring cooperative models between industrial zones in both countries.

Second, improve border gate infrastructure. The minister urged both countries to expedite procedures for the construction of the Ban Vuoc (Lao Cai) – Ba Sai (Ha Khau) border bridge and called for the swift organization of a ceremony to upgrade the Ma Lu Thang (Vietnam) – Kim Thuy Ha (China) border gates to international status.

Third, promote the opening of the agricultural product market. Minister Dien proposed that China continue expanding its market for Vietnamese agricultural products, including citrus fruits, avocados, custard apples, bell fruits, and cardamom. He stressed the importance of finalizing a protocol on quarantine requirements for fruits traditionally exported to China.

Fourth, promote the utilization of railway container routes. The minister suggested that the two ministries guide their relevant agencies to provide businesses with instructions on utilizing the Vietnam-China railway container transport routes.

Fifth, Minister Dien encouraged the exploration of new models to implement cross-border economic cooperation zones to facilitate smoother trade activities.

Sixth, he proposed the establishment of a Vietnam Trade Promotion Office in China to further boost bilateral trade.

In addition, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to supporting businesses from both countries in enhancing cooperation and exchange. He emphasized that strengthening the supply chain would enable the two countries to better respond to the global economic challenges.

For his part, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao expressed his support for Vietnam's initiatives. He committed to fostering cooperative ties between economically strong localities in both countries and supporting more Vietnamese exports entering the Chinese market.

Minister Wang Wentao also proposed that Vietnam enhance investment cooperation and supply chain integration, particularly by implementing agreements on investment cooperation, and initiatives related to the digital economy and green development.

Furthermore, he recommended that Vietnam adopt policies to support the development of power projects, industrial park cooperation, and trade collaboration. This would include negotiating agricultural trade cooperation agreements, enhancing e-commerce cooperation, and addressing issues related to product standards and anti-dumping investigations.

Both ministers expressed hope that the outcomes of the working session would provide a crucial foundation for further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China. They emphasized the importance of following the directions set forth by the high-ranking leaders of both countries to promote long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation.
