The Vietnamese movie “Co Ba Sai Gon” (The Tailor) screening attracted great attention from the local residents, diplomatic corps, and foreigners living and working in Bahrain.

“The Tailor” is a romantic comedy featuring the culture and lifestyle of Saigonese and the history of Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditional long dress). It starred Ngo Thanh Van, Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc, Diem My, and People’s Artist Hong Van, and was directed by young talents Loc Tran and Kay Nguyen.

The movie tells the story of a young, arrogant girl named Lan Ngoc in the 1960s. She was born into a family of tailors who specialized in making “ao dai”. She looked down on the career, but by some miracle, traveled to the future and met herself a few decades later.

Ngoc witnesses the tragedy of her family’s trade in the future, which resulted from the fact that she had turned her back on the craft. She then realizes the value of the traditional career and learns respect for the long dress.

Bastien Rafel, Cultural Attache at the French Embassy, said that the film helps the public understand more about one of the traditional cultural features of Vietnam and this is one of the films that attracted the most audiences at this film festival.

Expressing her excitement after watching the movie as well as sharing that she had come to Vietnam a few years ago, Haya Al-Sada, an officer at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, said that she knew, and loved the country, people, and culture of Vietnam. She would like to come back to Vietnam soon.

This is the second time the embassy has organized and coordinated the screening of Vietnamese films in Bahrain after the success of the Vietnamese Film Week in Bahrain in November 2023.
