Vietnamese Soldiers Deliver Gifts to Bentiu Refugee Camps

Vietnamese peacekeeping soldiers and locals in South Sudan formed a friendly bond over gifts giving activities to refugees camp.

On May 12, Vietnam's level-two Field Hospitals No. 3 and 4 delivered gifts to refugees at Protection of Civilians (POC) sites in South Sudan, one of many activities to support local people.

The two hospitals have been on UN peacekeeping missions in the African country.

At the event held in Bentiu, 50 packages of liquid soap and over 100 litres of orange juice were delivered to more than 50 families.

Vietnamese peacekeepers's meaningful volunteer activities are deeply recognized by mission leaders, international colleagues and local people.

These special events also contribute to promoting the tradition of solidarity of Vietnamese people aboard.

At Bentiu Base, after the war, the people of South Sudan faced a multitude of difficulties, especially after the biggest flood disaster in 60 years, the number of refugees is always above the camps' capacity.

Hence, UN agencies have been trying to secure shelter and food for as many people in refugee camps as possible. With these same efforts, the charity trips of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force joined as an encouragement carry a message of love and companionship for the local people in difficult times.

The activities focus on the work of educating children, supporting local health, helping and guiding people to cultivate agriculture and clean up effective epidemic rooms beyond material support.

The doctors also advise and guide the people in the refugee camp how to maintain personal hygiene, hygiene of the surrounding to prevent the epidemic, especially when the rainy season is coming and the reappearance of anthrax in South Sudan.

Another considerate gift from the Vietnam's level-two Field Hospitals No. 3 and 4 was that the soldiers offered taking and printing out photos on the spot to send to households in the charity area.

People at the camp live in difficult financial conditions so being able to take a picture of the whole family was a dream came true for them.

The volunteer session not only strengthened the solidarity between the two teams but also affirmed the continuation of the good deeds done by the Ho Chi Minh' descendant soldiers in the glorious mission entrusted by the Party, the State and the people of Vietnam.

It is also part of the handover plan between the two hospitals, of the meaningful activities to promote the image of Vietnamese culture to the people in South Sudan.
