Vietnamese Team Wins Over Two Dozen Gold Medals at ASEAN School Games

Vietnam took the lead in the ongoing ASEAN School Games (ASG) 2024’s medal tally after six competition days with 27 gold, 17 silver and seven bronze medals as of June 5.

It was followed by Thailand with 11 golds, 12 silvers and 15 bronzes, and Malaysia with nine golds, 11 silvers and 12 bronzes.

Indonesia and Singapore were among the top five, while the Philippines, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos and Brunei came next in the sequence.

On the day, the Vietnamese delegation won four golds in swimming and three golds in track and field.

June 4 was also a successful day for Vietnamese swimmers who won four gold medals. Concluding the second competition day, the Vietnamese swimming team owned nine gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, ranking first among participating teams.

In badminton, the Vietnamese men's team defeated their Indonesian rival to win the gold medal, while the women's team bagged a bronze medal together with Thailand.

Vietnam's Pencak Silat athletes on June 4 won two gold medals in Seni events (performance). Female athlete Hoang Linh Dan earned the first gold medal in the women's Seni event while Nguyen Thanh Long won the gold medal in the men's Seni category.

Following her first gold in the women's 3,000m run, Hoang Thi Ngoc Anh secured another in the women's 1,500m on the day. She finished first in 4 minutes and 43.33 seconds while her teammate Nguyen Khanh Linh came second in 4 minutes and 43.40 seconds.

Athletes continue competing at the qualifiers and finales of swimming, badminton, track and field and Pencak Silat on June 6.

The 13th ASG is being organized in the central city of Da Nang from June 1 to 7 under the theme of “Connect to Shine Bright”, drawing the participation of more than 1,300 students and coaches from 10 ASEAN countries.

The athletes are competing in six sports namely swimming, basketball, badminton, track and field, Pencak Silat, and Vovinam for 107 medal sets.

The Vietnamese team has 190 athletes participating in all sports.
