From January 18-20, the Vietnamese Embassy in Saudi Arabia welcomed businesses from the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce to visit the export sample exhibits located at the Embassy.

Representative of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce, Mansour Al-Ajmi appreciated the Embassy's efforts to bring samples to Saudi Arabia for display and promotion, such as agricultural products, food, textiles, and construction materials of more than 120 Vietnamese companies.

Ambassador Vu Viet Dung previously had a meeting with Ajlan bin Abdulaziz Al Ajlan, president of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce, to provide basic information on Vietnam's socio-economic development as well as opportunities for Saudi Arabia's importers.

Ajlan said that the potential for trade cooperation between the two countries is huge. Agricultural products and textiles are products that Vietnam has strengths and Saudi Arabia has great demand for. He also said that he had directed the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce to work with the Vietnamese Embassy to organize product introductions and connect businesses of the two countries.

Previously, the Embassy hosted a reception for representatives of large supermarket chains in Saudi Arabia, namely Lulu, Carrefour, and Al-Othaim, to visit the export sample exhibits and receive feedback on products.

Specifically, all food products must have Halal certification according to GCC standards. Products need to register quality, labeling, and packaging with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA).

Product packaging needs to be in Arabic, clearly stating the product name, product information such as ingredients and shelf life. Labels need to be registered with the SFDA to be allowed in circulation. Plastic and metal packaging needs to meet SASO standards. Currently, products can be registered for quality via electronic licensing through Saudi Arabia's SABER system (https://saber.sa).

There is huge market potential for items such as fresh/dried fruit, processed food, instant noodles, handicrafts. Businesses need to build a brand name and fully meet local technical standards to be able to circulate products as soon as there is a successful commercial transaction.

The Embassy has forwarded the feedbacks of representatives of supermarket chains to Vietnamese businesses for consideration and adjustment. Representatives of supermarket chains in Saudi Arabia said that they will contact businesses directly, and will ask the Embassy for support if needed.
