The trip is a part of the International Women's Day celebration for the local women and children, said Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Director of Vietnam's Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 5.

On March 5, the volunteer trip took place with the participation of many officers from the UNMISS, friends of Mongolia’s Level 1 Field Hospital, as well as the local doctors.

The volunteers provide health check-ups for women and children in Bentiu (South Sudan). The examination package includes general health examination with a gynecological examination for about 50 women. They were provided with general ultrasound, obstetric ultrasound, and reproductive health consultation. The doctor gave advice on early detection of abnormalities and common gynecological diseases, especially instructions on proper gynecological care and hygiene for women. After the examination, the women were given gifts of shirts, sandals, hats and feminine hygiene solutions.

According to Dr. Huynh Thi Thanh Giang, who is responsible for obstetric examination and consultation, the screening session revealed two cases of gallbladder stones and ureteral stones. Also, several diseases were discovered that the local women were unaware of, helping them gain more information about their diseases and their treatment.

One case of early pregnancy was identified (the pregnant woman herself was unaware of her condition), and another case involved a pregnancy that ceased development. Both cases were scheduled for follow-up examination and treatment, said Dr. Thanh Giang.

Many local people also took the chance to interact with the Vietnamese volunteers. On the other hand, Major Tran Thuan Trang, Chief Nurse of the Vietnam Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 5, and Nurse Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang prepare presents, including 50 liters of milk tea for the local people. The initiatives undertaken by Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 5 have contributed to building a friendly image of Vietnamese people among international friends.
