(VNF)- A company in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa has earned the nod from local authorities to earmark part of the beach in Nha Trang, its provincial capital, for tourists and locals to swim at night.

The night swims will be conducted under the supervision of the rescue personnel, according to a plan approved recently by the local administration.

Accordingly, the night-swimming beach will stay open in front of 32-34 Hotel on Tran Phu street from 6.30pm to 10.30pm every day from early August onwards.

The stretch available for free night-swimming will measure 120m long and extends around 50m from the shore and lies within the area where the hotel is allowed to put its beach umbrellas and benches, according to the proposition.

Swimming after 6:00 pm is generally not advisable at beaches throughout Vietnam for safety reasons, as no lifeguards work that late to ensure beachgoers’ safety.

TD JSC, which proposed opening a night swimming beach, said it will set up a lighting system and arrange lifeboats and lifeguard forces.

The local administration has also ordered the company to build observatories and have medical kits at hand.

Additionally, the company will also be responsible for environment, security and safety within the zone.

All the equipment used during the night swimming hours will have to be cleaned and ready for use after 10.30pm for the next day.

The local administration worked with relevant agencies on the proposal during a Monday meeting, and eventually decided to give TD Co. the green light.

The night swimming zone, which is admission-free and serves both locals and tourists, will be open on a trial basis this month, Le Huy Toan, deputy chairman of Nha Trang, said after the meeting.

The 32-34 Tran Phu Hotel is located on Tran Phu, the main street of the beloved resort city, fronting a beach area that is intended for public use.

Earlier, in late 2014, the management board of Nha Trang Beach proposed to invest in a free night-swimming zone in front of April 2nd Square. The proposition is yet to be approved.

The suggested area would run around 200m along the beach, from Nha Trang’s hallmark Tram Huong Tower to Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street.

Nha Trang is located in Khanh Hoa, 440 kilometres northeast of Ho Chi Minh City and around 1,300 kilometres from Hanoi.

Popular for its gorgeous Nha Trang Bay, friendly ambiance, white-sand coastline and warm clear waters, the city draws a large number of tourists, including foreigners, throughout the year./.
