Vietnam’s Northern province and Laos seek cooperation in various fields
The meeting saw the attendance of Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang; Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association Tran Van Tuy; President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) Nguyen Phuong Nga; Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tien Long, Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association along with members of VUFO and the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association and officials of the Lao Embassy in Vietnam.
In Thai Nguyen, the delegation visited Thai Nguyen University of Education, the Safety Zone (ATK) in Dinh Hoa, the High Command of Military Region I, the Thai Nguyen Cultural Museum of Vietnam ethnic minority groups and School of Culture I under the Ministry of Public Security.

According to local reports, Thai Nguyen belongs to the capital construction planning area in 2030, with a vision to 2050. Thai Nguyen has the potential in developing tourism and attracting investment in the electronics industry. The province is a medical center with its Central General Hospital and 25 hospitals. It is also the country’s third-largest education training center with 9 universities, 52 colleges and vocational schools. Despite the complicated development of Covid-19 in 2020, Thai Nguyen still posted economic growth of 4.24%. The province has received 165 FDI projects with total capital of $8.64 billion.
Thai Nguyen province always treasures and aspires to foster the traditional friendship with Laos in general and its localities in particular. The province twinned with Luang Prabang province, has cooperated with Huaphanh and Phongsaly provinces. The localities of the two countries have organized many visits and cooperated in various fields, especially in education and health.
The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai expressed her wish that the Laos Embassy in Vietnam would serve as a bridge to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Thai Nguyen province and localities, organizations and enterprises of Laos, thereby, opening up opportunities for both sides to beef up cooperation in the fields of culture, education, trade, investment and environmental protection, etc. She also requested the Embassy Laos, in the time to come, to introduce Laos hospitals and businesses to coordinate with the province in the health field.

On behalf of the delegation, Laos Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang emphasized that the people of Thai Nguyen province have made an important contribution to the Lao national liberation and development. The Ambassador sent his congratulations to Thai Nguyen for its outstanding achievement in all fields.
In the time ahead, the Lao Embassy would inform Lao people about the medical facilities in Thai Nguyen province and hope that they would be another choice for Lao people apart from the central hospitals in Hanoi, he added.
