In coordination with Quang Tri Province Border Guard Command (La Lay International Border Guard) and Vietnamese Association in Champasak (Laos), the Ho Chi Minh City Overseas Vietnamese Committee held a ceremony to gift VND 590 million (USD 25,600) for equipment purchase for Friendship Primary School in Champasak, Laos.
This is a gift from Ho Chi Minh City's leaders and people so that the Friendship School can buy 25 computers serving its teaching work, promoting education quality, at the same time expressing affection from Ho Chi Minh City's leaders and people towards education for Vietnamese living in Laos in general and in Champasak in particular.
In his remark, Mr. Tran Duc Hien, Ho Chi Minh City Overseas Vietnamese Committee Vice-Chairman said: “In order to express the concern of the Party Committee, as well as Ho Chi Minh City's Government and people to the Vietnamese community in Laos, strengthen the solidarity and friendship between the people of Vietnam and Laos, every year, Ho Chi Minh City Overseas Vietnamese Committee organizes a business trip to visit and give gifts to Vietnamese living in Lao. In 2020, due to the complicated situation of the COVID-19 pandemic, the trip must be postponed. As we enter the year 2021, because the pandemic situation has not yet under full control, the social mission trip to Laos has not been re-operated".

"The pandemic has been turning every daily work upside down. However, our lives need to be carried on in the new normal state. Therefore, instead of bringing the city leaders' gift to the Friendship Primary School in Champasak, we hold this ceremony in the border area, which is most favorable for the Vietnamese in Champasak and representatives from the school. We hope that with this attention, Vietnamese-origin children will have the opportunities for better education, better integration with the host community, contributing to the special solidarity and friendship between the two peoples, at the same time keeping bonds with their fatherland."
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City Overseas Vietnamese Committee coordinated with Vietnamese living in Laos to present 25 kinds of medicines, with a total value of about VND 16 million (USD 695) to the Vietnamese Association in Champasak province, Laos. The committee also gave 10,000 medical masks to border guards working at La Lay International Border Gate; and 2,500 notebooks to poor students in A Ngo commune, Dakrong district, Quang Tri province.
The Friendship Primary School of Champasak Province is a symbol of the affection from the Vietnamese community in Laos to their homeland. They together contributed to building the school in 2002. Currently, the School has over 700 students, all learn Vietnamese from the 1st grade. Over the past time, the city leaders have often supported the school with scholarships and cash.
