4 out of 10 pavilions of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were awarded by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) on the evening of March 30, before the closing ceremony of World Expo 2020 Dubai.

A statement from the ASEAN Secretariat said that Malaysia and Singapore were awarded the Gold Prize for thematic development and architecture of small-scale self-build pavilions.

Cambodia won the Silver Prize for the design of thematic booths located in the exhibition area on the theme of sustainable development. Vietnam won the Bronze Award for thematic interpretation in the category of rented pavilion.

The pavilion of the four ASEAN countries mentioned above was chosen because it adhered to the theme of "Connecting minds, creating the future" of World Expo 2020 Dubai, while embodying the idea of sustainable development and innovation.

According to BIE, the winning pavilions were selected by an international jury - consisting of nine experts representing a wide range of fields. The jury visited and scored each pavilion in January and March 2022.

Lee Yoong Yoong, director for Community Affairs of ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN commissioner-general at World Expo 2020 said: “ASEAN is proud of the recognition given to the pavilion of 4 member countries. As a collective, ASEAN has shown cohesion, attachment and solidarity at World Expo 2020. I hope that the participation of all member states and the ASEAN Secretariat at this Expo will send a strong message that ASEAN is a responsible member of the global community.”
