Vinh Phuc Province Looks to Woo Japan's Investors

The northern province of Vinh Phuc hosted a gathering to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.

A meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan on August 26 took place to tighten the good relationship between Vinh Phuc province and Japanese partners and investors, thereby contributing positively to the good cooperative relationship between the two countries.

Speaking at the program, Vice Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee Vu Chi Giang affirmed that, looking back on the past 50 years, the friendship and cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Japan is at an elevated stage, developing strongly and comprehensively in all fields.

Currently, Japan is the most important economic partner of Vietnam, the largest partner in providing official development assistance (ODA), the second in labor, the third in investment and tourism, the fourth in trade.

Local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges have been increasingly strengthened, contributing to deepening the understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Over the years, the cooperation relationship between Vinh Phuc and Japanese localities, partners, organizations and enterprises has continuously developed strongly, extensively and effectively.

Regarding friendship cooperation, Vinh Phuc has established cooperative relations with two Japanese localities, Akita province in 2015 and Tochigi province in 2021. The two sides have made great efforts in implementing friendship cooperation agreements, which focus on cooperation activities in the field of economy, investment attraction and trade promotion.

Regarding economic cooperation, Japan is the first country to have an investment project in Vinh Phuc. By the end of June 2023, Japan had 62 projects (out of a total of 454 foreign direct investment projects in the province), with a registered capital of more than USD 1.8 billion.

Most Japanese investors in Vinh Phuc are operating in mechanics, automobile and motorcycle production, electronics manufacturing, and industrial park infrastructure development, such as Honda, Toyota, Sumitomo and more recently Sojitz Corporation. They account for 88% of FDI firms’ contributions to the local budget.

Vinh Phuc always appreciates the projects of Japanese investors for their brand, effectiveness, and important contributions to the development of the province in recent years.

"Today's cultural exchange program is an opportunity for us to look back on the 50-year journey of cooperation and development since the two countries established official diplomatic relations; time, it is an opportunity for Vinh Phuc province to recognize the important contributions of Japanese entrepreneurs and businesses to the development of the province," Giang emphasized.

In the morning of the same day, the Vinh Phuc People's Committee held the Vietnam - Japan Friendship Golf Tournament at Thanh Lanh Golf Course, aiming to create opportunities to strengthen the solidarity and friendship relationship between the authorities, provincial people, enterprises with enterprises from Japan.

This is also an opportunity for Japanese businesses and entrepreneurs to exchange information, seek cooperation opportunities, promote production and business, create more products to meet market demand, and overcome difficulties. post-Covid.
