VNAT Proposes RoK Simplify Visa Procedures for Vietnamese Visitors
Last year, about 3.6 million Koreans visited Vietnam, while 400,000 Vietnamese holidaymakers came to the RoK.

According to Khanh, the total two-way visitor exchange between Vietnam and the RoK reached 4 million last year, recovering 83% of the pre-pandemic level.

He suggested the embassy and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) advise the Korean government to create favorable conditions and simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese tourists.

The VNAT will work with the KTO over the promotion of Vietnam’s tourism in the RoK this year, Khanh said, suggesting the Korean organization invite Korean firms to join such activities.

He also proposed the KTO consider the establishment of a joint tourism cooperation committee, which would meet annually and alternately in the two countries.

For his part, Park stressed that Vietnam is a leading tourist destination in the world, and collaboration in this field between the two countries has been enhanced over the past years.

Last year, about 3.6 million Koreans visited Vietnam, while 400,000 Vietnamese holidaymakers came to the RoK.

The diplomat said Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Da Lat and Phu Quoc are among the destinations favored by Koreans, adding charter flights have been launched to the sites.

The Vietnam- RoK bilateral agreement on recognizing the International Driving Permit (IDP), which was signed by the two sides on the occasion of President Yoon Suk Yeol's visit to Vietnam in June 2023, took effect from July the same year. It has been seen as a factor facilitating their tourism cooperation.

Park also suggested the VNAT work to attract more Koreans to the Southeast Asian nation./.

Under the above-said agreement, citizens from the RoK with a valid driver's license can soon be eligible to drive in Vietnam with an international driving permit.

The Korean National Police Agency expected some 4.3 million Korean citizens to take advantage of the international driving permit to drive in the Southeast Asian country. Vietnamese tourists are already able to drive in the RoK with an international driving permit.

Korean citizens with a driver's license can apply for an international driving permit. Once issued at police stations, license examination offices, Incheon Airport, or Gimhae Airport, the permit is valid for a year.

Earlier, the RoK Government granted permission for holders of international driving permits issued by Vietnam to drive in the RoK under Article 96 of the country's Road Traffic Law.
