VUFO Representative Lays Wreaths, Records condolences for Flood Victims in Libya

On September 19, in Hanoi, the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) delegation led by Nguyen Ngoc Hung - VUFO's Vice President came to the Libyan Embassy in Hanoi to lay a wreath and write in the condolence record to commemorate victims of the flood disaster recently occurred in Libya.

VUFO Vice President Nguyen Ngoc Hung expressed his sympathy and condolences as the devastating flood swept through northeastern Libya, especially Derna city, killing more than 11,000 people and causing thousands missing and injured.

"The Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the Libyan people and their members send their heartfelt condolence to the government and people of Libya, especially the victims and families. We wish Libyan people will soon recover and move strongly forward," wrote Nguyen Ngoc Hung.

Talking with Alsudik S. S. Ali, Charge d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy to Vietnam, Nguyen Ngoc Hung said VUFO and the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the Libyan people stand side by side with the Embassy and the Libyan people. He hopes that in the coming time, the Libyan Embassy in Vietnam will continue to coordinate with VUFO to hold people-to-people diplomacy activities to promote increasingly close and developed relations between the two countries.

Chargé d'Affaires Alsudik S. S. Ali said that the losses that Libya suffered from the flood disaster were extremely huge. However, thanks to the support from Vietnam and other countries, Libya will strive to overcome this difficulty to resolve its consequences.

According to Alsudik S S Ali, VUFO delegation's visit to the Embassy to show condolences demonstrates the deep affection and solidarity between the two peoples. The Embassy looks to coordinate with VUFO and the Vietnam Committee for Solidarity with the Libyan people to promote cooperation in many fields, especially labor.

On September 10, Storm Daniel brought heavy rain and caused serious flooding in northeastern Libya. Derna, a city in Eastern Libya, was most heavily affected by the devastating flood after the city's dams broke, washing away many houses and people. According to official reports, the storm has caused more than 11,000 dead and more than 10,000 missing. The number of casualties is possible to increase.

The international community and countries in the region are continuing to provide aid to Libya after the flood disaster.

Vietnamese leaders express condolences regarding the flood in Libya

Learning that Storm Daniel hit Derna, Libya on September 10, causing great damage to people and property, on September 13, President Vo Van Thuong sent a telegram of condolences to theChairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, Mohammed Yunus Al-Menfi; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a telegram of condolences to Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son sent a condolence message to Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Fathallah al-Zani.
