Wales vs England World Cup 2022: Date & Time, Preview, Team News, Prediction
England will be looking to bounce back from their lacklustre draw against the United States as they seek the win that would send them into the World Cup last 16 as group winners.
Three points against Wales will be enough for them to claim top spot in Group B, while a point will be enough to progress, but they also need to improve on their showing in Friday's stalemate with the USA - where Gareth Southgate's side were heavily criticised following a poor performance, Daily Mail reported.
Wales, meanwhile, are on the brink of elimination following a 2-0 defeat by Iran. They must now defeat England, and if it isn't by more than four goals Rob Page's side must also hope that Iran and USA play out a draw.

Wales vs England team news
As The Guardian reported, Bale knows England are not infallible. “Everyone has weaknesses,” the Wales captain said. “We’ve done our homework. We’ve had meetings and I’m sure they’ve done the same with us. England are a very good team. They are one of the favourites to win the tournament. We are under no illusions that it will be hard. There’s been a few shocks in the tournament already and there’s no reason why we can’t do the same.”
A change in formation could be Gareth Southgate’s answer to England’s underwhelming second performance at the World Cup, with Wales their opponents to round off Group B. The Three Lions are all-but secure of their route to the last-16 but it is unlikely that Southgate will make wholesale changes to his starting XI.
Instead, Kyle Walker’s return to fitness could herald a return to the 5-2-3 system often favoured by England at major tournaments.
There have been calls to rest Harry Kane and bring Phil Foden into the line-up but Southgate is unlikely to drop his captain but could cede to the latter. Jordan Henderson is expected to start after impressing off the bench against the USA, despite Jude Bellingham impressing in the tournament, as he lines up alongside Declan Rice.
For Wales, Joe Allen is likely to start if fit following a hamstring injury. He returned as a substitute in the defeat to Iran last time out. Wayne Hennessey is suspended after his red card in that match, meaning Danny Ward will start in goal.
Brennan Johnson and Daniel James will both be knocking on the door to start with only a win good enough to keep Wales in the World Cup.
Wales vs England prediction
Wales possible starting lineup:
Ward; Mepham, Rodon, Davies; Roberts, Ramsey, Ampadu, Williams; James, Moore, Bale.
England possible starting lineup:
Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Rice, Henderson; Sterling, Mount, Foden; Kane.
Marcus Rashford shrugged off the suggestion England are too conservative under Gareth Southgate as he insisted they have a killer instinct.
England drew 0-0 with the United States on Friday, in a World Cup match that saw both teams only accumulate a combined 1.4 expected goals (xG).
The draw leaves England – 6-2 victors over Iran in their opening match – on four points at the top of Group B, meaning they only need to avoid defeat against neighbours Wales on Tuesday to guarantee qualification.
A win would confirm their place as group winners, but manager Southgate has been criticised in some quarters for his pragmatic approach.
After drawing their first game against the United States, Wales lost 2-0 to Iran last time out, meaning they must topple England to stand a chance of progressing from the group, and even a win might not be enough.
According to sportskeeda, England have one of the best squads in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and are well-placed for a deep run in the competition. The Three Lions lacked a sense of purpose against the USA and will need to make amends in this fixture.
Wales have failed to meet expectations at the World Cup and are in a difficult situation in their group. England are the better team at the moment and should be able to win this game.
Wales vs England Head-to-Head and Key Numbers
-England have an excellent record against Wales and have won 68 out of the 103 matches played between the two teams, as opposed to Wales' 14 victories.
-England have won each of their last six games against Wales, scoring an impressive 11 goals and conceding only one during this period.
-This is England's first World Cup match against another British side - the Three Lions are unbeaten in their three matches against British teams in the Euros.
-England have lost their final group game at a FIFA World Cup in only two of the last 14 editions, with the previous such occasion coming against Belgium in 2018.
-Wales are currently on a winless run of seven matches in all competitions for the first time since November 2003.
Facing their most important game in recent memory against a British rival, a galvanized Wales side should not be counted out on the mentality side of things, but their on-pitch endeavours against Iran left a lot to be desired.
England were not exactly firing on all cylinders against the USA either and will have a hard time breaking down a five-man Wales backline, but we are still expecting Southgate's team to find their shooting boots and confirm a last-16 place, inflicting World Cup heartbreak on their neighbours in the process.
