In his opening speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet highlighted the significant progress the diplomatic sector has made in recent years alongside the country's development. He noted that the sector has not only played a pivotal role in implementing the Party's foreign policy but has also gradually built and refined diplomatic theories, contributing to the establishment of a comprehensive and modern diplomatic framework.
As the country and the diplomatic sector enter a crucial phase of implementing the goals of the 13th Party Congress and preparing for the 14th Party Congress, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is gearing up to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the sector's establishment. This milestone will be marked by numerous practical and meaningful activities, including the publication of works and documents reflecting on 80 years of Vietnamese diplomacy. In this context, it is essential to summarize past achievements, draw lessons, and outline new directions for the future.

After the 13th Party Congress, on May 31, 2021, the CPV Designated Representation of the Ministry issued Directive No. 02-CT/BCSĐ on historical and traditional work and emulation and rewards.
On October 1, 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs issued a decision to promulgate a plan to implement this directive until 2025. These directives represent the institutionalization of the Party's foreign policy in the new period, demonstrating a determined effort to thoroughly grasp the awareness and actions of the Ministry's leaders and the entire diplomatic sector towards comprehensive innovation and the improvement of historical and traditional diplomatic work.
In recent times, the diplomatic sector has achieved outstanding results in historical and traditional work, especially in paying tribute to predecessor leaders, historical witnesses, and previous generations; researching and summarizing documents on diplomatic history to inform the Party's foreign policy planning and advisory work; and creating connections between generations of diplomatic staff over time.
It can be said that the directive has helped spread the role and contribution of the diplomatic sector in the cause of protecting, building, and developing the country. It has contributed to popularizing, nurturing, and promoting pride in the history and traditions of the sector.
At the workshop, delegates focused on addressing difficulties and obstacles in the implementation of the directive, discussing solutions on institutional, human resources, and organizational issues, as well as suggesting new directions and approaches to achieve a "quality" transformation. These efforts aim to improve the quality of work, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new situation.
Based on these discussions, delegates proposed research topics and key tasks for the future to align this work with other foreign affairs and industry development tasks, striving to make it an important and regular task. In particular, experts, ambassadors, long-time officials, and representatives of the Ministry's functional departments contributed valuable opinions on combining the work of summarizing diplomatic history with theoretical research on diplomacy, as well as training and teaching about diplomatic history and traditions for diplomatic officials and students.
