World Arabic Day 2023: Developing and Spreading Arabic Language in Vietnam
An ceremony was organized on December 18 in the framework of the World Arabic Language Day under Arabian – the Language of Poetry and Arts, which took place in Hanoi gathering dozens of representatives from the ministries, universities and research institutes, VNA & VNS reported.

Addressing the ceremony, Homoud Al Mutairi, Deputy Chief of Mission of Saudi Arabian Embassy, stressed that the anniversary this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of Arabic being approved to be one of the official languages of the United Nations.
“With the profundity and abundance of vocabularies, origins, and ways to express, the Arabian language has been a tool to connect civilizations, cultural exchanges, science, knowledge and literature exchanges between eras,” he said. "The language has absorbed various civilizations like Persian, Greece and India to become a global language.”
The embassy also launched the first Arabic-Vietnamese dictionary by Hanoi National University.
Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to preserving and developing the Arabic language, and the country has made significant contributions to enhancing the status of the language.
As part of the above-mentioned efforts, the embassy has paid attention to popularising the language through collaboration with the embassies of other Arab countries and Vietnamese educational institutions that are currently teaching Arabic.
It has supported the compilation of the dictionary to create the best possible conditions for the relevant teaching and learning activities, thus benefiting not only students and teachers but also Vietnamese people living and working in Arabian countries, the diplomat stressed.

According to the Chairman of the Council of the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS) - Hanoi-based Vietnam National University, Do Tuan Minh, as the first higher education institution in Vietnam to open bachelor's degree programs in Arabic, ULIS has made significant contributions to the training of human resources in this major over the past 27 years.
The university has made great efforts in the compilation project, aiming to serve Arabic language teaching activities within the institution and provide support for individuals who are interested in learning this language, he said.
As part of events commemorating World Arabic Language Day, the Saudi Arabia Embassy held an Arabic poetry recitation contest for Vietnamese students studying at ULIS and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (HCMUSSH) - HCMC National University.

Students Tran Bui Ngoc Tram and Nguyen Khanh Linh won second and third prizes while Vu Phuong Quỳnh Anh and Nguyen Le Khanh Huyen collected consolation prizes.
Earlier, on December 16, the ULIS – the first educational establishment in Vietnam to teach Arabic, and the Saudi Arabian Embassy held a ceremony in Hanoi to celebrate World Arabic Language Day with the participation of Saudi Arabian Ambassador Mohammed Ismaeil A. Dahlwy.
