1,300 Vietnamese in Germany Gather to Celebrate Tet
The Vietnamese Embassy coordinated with the Vietnamese community in Germany to organize the 2024 Spring community Tet program on January 28 at the Cultural House of Dong Xuan Trade Center in Berlin.
Attending the event, in addition to members of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany and neighboring agencies, were the Ambassadors of Laos, Singapore, and Cambodia and representatives of the embassies of Thailand, the US, China, and Japan, among others.
On the German side, there were representatives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Parliamentary Group in the German Parliament, the Ministry of Economy, the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, the German-Viet, District Mayors of Lichtenberg district, Marzahn - Hellersdorf district, as well as many German and international friends.

Ambassador Vu Quang Minh shared that, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, about 1,300 Vietnamese people living, working, and studying across Germany gathered to attend the traditional Tet and celebrate with each other after a year of hard work.
With a new milestone in 2023, the establishment of the Vietnamese Association in Germany, an organization including all Vietnamese people living in 16 states of Germany, is truly a new qualitative development step for the Vietnamese community, Ambassador Minh said.
The diplomat hopes that the Vietnamese Association in Germany will continue to be a bridge and a legitimate representative for the legitimate interests of the Vietnamese community in Germany, opening a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries in general and especially in the development of the Vietnamese community in the host country in particular.
Martin Schaefer, District Mayor of Lichtenberg, expressed his joy and emotion to attend Vietnam's traditional Tet, sending early New Year greetings to the Vietnamese community in Germany.
Schaefer shared that Dong Xuan Trade Center is an important location for Lichtenberg because it is not only an economic development center but also an integration center and has a great contribution to the district. In particular, many people know Dong Xuan Market for its famous delicious Vietnamese dishes.

For her part, Marzahn-Hellersdorf District Mayor, Nadja Zivkovic appreciated the role of the Vietnamese community in Germany in general and in the district in particular, affirming that the activities of the Vietnamese community contribute to development. general socio-economic activities of the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district.
With about 5,000 Vietnamese people currently living and working in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, Zivkovic acknowledges the integration of the Vietnamese community here, especially the very good academic achievements of the students.
She said that the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district in Berlin has had a twinned relationship with the Hoang Mai district in Hanoi for many years. Shortly, she plans to visit several localities in Vietnam and work with Hoang Mai district in February to strengthen relations within the framework of twinning cooperation between the two districts.
The Consulate General of Vietnam in Frankfurt, Germany also organized a ceremony to welcome the Lunar New Year on January 27, VNA reported.
Speaking at the event, Consul General Nguyen Quynh Phuong reviewed Vietnam's outstanding political, economic, and diplomatic achievements in 2023, emphasizing that Vietnam's foreign relations are increasingly expanding and its prestige in the international arena is improving.
She said that the relationship between Vietnam and Germany continued to deepen and become more substantive in many fields.
Germany is Vietnam's largest trading partner in the EU and the latter is Germany's largest trading partner in the ASEAN. Their bilateral trade turnover reached nearly USD 14 billion last year.
She underlined the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Germany to Vietnam's overall success, contributing to popularise the images of the country and Vietnamese people. The diplomat also called on the Vietnamese community to continue supporting the activities of the Consulate General, together looking toward their homeland.
